Job Description
Job Purpose
- Facilitate in the embedding of operational risk assurance model in the Group’s three lines of defense through best-in-class operational assurance practices. Support the Group in delivering value and achieving business objectives in a control environment through effective operational assurance activities and oversight.
- Management of data of operational risk incidents and losses to ensure timely reporting and diligent action from risk owners to mitigate risks. Perform reviews of operational risk assessments of projects (ORAP), new or change initiatives, introduction of new products, service or system and identify potential risks and provide risk mitigating control recommendations.
Job Accountabilities & Responsibilities
- Facilities the associate Vice President – Operational Risk Management, and the Group Head of Enterprise Risk Management in the development, implementation and updating of the Group Enterprise Risk Management Framework & program.
- Facilitate in reviewing relevant policies and processes of the Group from operational assurance perspective.
- Manage and oversee teams at Group and regional level for the execution of operational assurance program.
- Facilitate in the review and operational assurance process of new market entrance, mergers and acquisition.
- Responsible for operational assurance reporting for the Group and regions.
- Providing & facilitating training and awareness to colleagues at Group and regional level.
- Roll out of the incident Management and operational risk loss reporting processes for tracking of incidents, operational losses and near misses.
- As a member of the operational risk management team, be the source of reference to business units in facilitating and promoting the understanding of operational risk and governance matters.
- Communicating with Business and Support functions to implement sound operational risk management framework.
- Facilitate timely identification and rectification of incidents by risk owners and champions.
- Perform verification of closure of remedial action of incidents to minimize recurrence of incidents including similar/related incidents.
- Ensure quality of incident data for risk measurement.
- Use risk incidents as an input into the qualifications and performance of risks and controls.
- Report any losses incurred due to the incident to senior management with analysis and recommendation, providing indications of potential risk prone areas.
- To act as a reviewer prior to incident closure to ensure appropriate risks are identified and documented.
- Follow up with stakeholder for resolution of open risk items and independently assesses the quality of risk resolution actions.
- Review standard Operating procedures and process notes to identify procedural risks and recommend compensating controls.
- Validate and challenge the risk identification and assessment of inherent and residual risks arising from its end-to-end processes. Assess the control environment, control design, control execution and control testing.
- Perform reviews of operational risk assessment of projects, new or change initiatives, introduction of new products, services or systems and identify potential risks and provide risk mitigating control recommendations using a unified risk assessment standard across Group.
- Participate in new natives (e.g., product, services, solutions, system launches, etc.) to identify risks arising out of changes and recommend for suitable controls and identify, assess, control, and monitor risk related to operational nature in alignment with the “Adaptive Gate Model” for projects.
- Facilitate the first line of defense to segregate the initiatives in terms of impact (Financial or Non-Financial) and initiate ORAP at an early stage of the initiatives (i.e., conceptual or planning stage)
- Facilitate the risk owners to monitor initiatives after launch or “Go-live” for risks and report to Group Operational Risk.
- Developing training materials on operational risk issues to enhance understanding on operational risk issues among the staff and conduct periodic training sessions and workshops.
Job Requirements
- Bachelor or master’s degree in Risk Management / Finance / Management Information systems / Business Administration with strong grasp over statistical tools and techniques.
- Minimum 10-12 years’ experience in banking / financial services / payments industry / risk management.
- Exposure to banking operations, Payments, Card Operations, Merchant Acquiring Operations with reasonable experience in process management, MIS, and Data analysis.
- Good understanding of international standers e.g., international organization for standardization “ISO” and committee of Sponsoring Organization of the tredway Commissions “COCO”
- Should have strong communication, negotiation, presentation, and report writing skills.
- Pro-active and self-starer who can work with limited supervision.
- Good understanding of Operation Risk Tools Such as RCSA /KRI / Loss Data Management.
- Strong Interpersonal skills used within a team environment.
- Resource with expert knowledge on spreadsheet who has hands on experience with short cut formulas and macros.
- Strong communication, analytical skills, and strong organization skills.
- Able to lead the investigations internally and take ownership of issue until closure.
- Costumer focused and should be able to work under pressure and should have an easy-going attitude and self-motivated.
