Job Description

At Office:

  • Assist in the preparation of survey execution plan
  • Assist in the preparation of project reports.
  • Assist in preparation of run lines/sail-lines
  • Communicate effectively geophysical and geological issues to survey data processors
  • Assist in communications with clients

During operations:

  • Supervise the entire online system (software and hardware)
  • Verify that the online system has been installed and configured correctly for use
  • Assess calibration results and approve or not approve results based on company standards
  • Operate geophysical & geotechnical survey operations and monitor the data quality to ensure the survey specification is achieved
  • Production of draft charts and coverage check
  • Archive the RAW data in accordance with procedures and best practice
  • Communicate with the client’s representative(s) and succinctly explain procedures, project status, contractual issues, terms of reference, etc.
  • Prepare daily progress reports to the client and/or company
  • Prepare detailed handover reports at the end/start of a job

Job Requirements

Education: 

  • Faculty of Engineering: Geomatics or Civil

Experience:

  • Satisfactory completion of the competence criteria for Surveyor & data processing grade AND normally min 8-12  years experience in the field of offshore survey, survey techniques, and presentation.

Able to deal with:

  • Side-scan sonar
  • Multibeam sonar
  • Echosounders
  • Motion compensators
  • Gyrocompass
  • Computers and peripherals (plotters)
  • Data acquisition systems
  • Global positioning systems
  • Acoustic positioning systems
  • Hand tools
  • Deck equipment
  • Sound velocity profilers Power supplies (up to 400 volts AC)
  • Hydraulics
  • Bottom & Core samplers
  • Marine radios
  • Winches
  • Telemetry systems
  • Land-based survey equipment

Competences:

  • Physically fit for work at sea

Skills:

  • Comprehensive understanding of the offline processing modeling & analysis software: EIVA, Triton & HYPACK
  • The good use of Microsoft office suite: word, excel, access & power-point
  • The good use of AutoCAD 2D
  • The ability to configure, connect and use the company survey senores
  • Good Knowledge of practical seamanship and good rigging skills
  • Have a good understanding of database tech.
  • Very high standard of written & spoken English
