Job Description

  • Achieve category targets Sales, Orders, margin and stock turnover.
  • Design & Execute the GTM strategy for their respective category of merchandise.
  • Conduct ongoing market research / retail audit to study pricing for each category in various governorates, and monitor distributor tier rebate system for every supplier in their respective categories.
  • Conduct ongoing field research on market prices for their respective commodities
  • Acquire manufacturers , traders, specialized in these commodities to be onboarded on the MP
  • Finalize retail/MP trading agreements with suppliers in their respective fields
  • Review market -prices of their respective commodities
  • Work closely with Category Leadership on planning and business strategy; maximize revenue growth through timely analysis and action.
  • Manage and develop supplier relationships.
  • Lead and define the contract management strategy with suppliers.
  • Monitoring market trends and understanding competitors’ product range offerings and pricing.
  • Prepare effective POs ensuring on time product delivery in right quantities within allocated budget.
  • Work on demand plan to assure stock availability for the fast-moving items.
  • Manage Category Stock and preparing action plans.
  • Increase and expanding category selection

Develop Category Strategy

After performing research on product trends and customer demand, category managers develop strategies for new or updated products that could improve their category’s overall performance. They also work with the marketing team and build partnerships in the industry to promote a category’s products while cutting costs and increasing product sales.

Manage Inventory

Checking inventory levels, procuring additional stock, and getting rid of excess or unwanted inventory are all part of a category manager’s job. Other inventory management tasks include handling product placement, optimizing storage, and creating regular reports on product availability.

Monitor Performance

Category managers monitor the performance of both individual products and their category overall. This involves using data to determine the best- and worst-performing products, and assessing performance against competitors. Using this information, category managers assess their product and category strategies and develop solutions to improve performance.

Handle Vendor Contracts

Considering vendor performance, quality, and costs, category managers seek vendors in the industry, request information, and use their criteria to choose the best suppliers for their category’s products. They negotiate contracts during the signing process and at the time of renewal, and also monitor vendors’ adherence to contractual terms throughout the relationship.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in AGRICULTURE and/or animal nutrition ( but this is only for the poultry feed and large animal feed category lead)
  • Experience using Microsoft Office, particularly Excel and analytical platforms
  • Professional written and verbal communication skills
  • Solid negotiation skills and a proven history of taking ownership
  • At least 2-5 years’ experience as field rep,  business development, sales, category manager in any fertilizer, crop protection, Agri seeds , and  animal/ poultry feed producing companies or distributors.

Category Manager Skills and Qualifications

  • As leaders, category managers have strong decision-making and management skills.
  • A background in the category of products they manage.
  • Key requirements include a business-related bachelor’s degree and up to five years of experience in a related role.
