Contract Type:  2 years

Purpose

  • The School of Computing (SOC) provides innovative undergraduate and postgraduate courses in Computing, Computer Science, and Ethical Hacking & Cybersecurity. Due to the continued growth and success of our teaching and growing research profile we wish to appoint an Assistant Professor in Cybersecurity to contribute to the teaching and research activities.
  • Under the direction of the Head of School or nominee, the post holder contributes to the effective running of the SOC by contributing to a range of activities that include lecturing, delivery of tutorials, organizing seminars/workshops/conferences/competitions, supervising student projects, participating to field trips among others. 
  • The Assistant Professor will contribute to lecturing of subjects such as Cybersecurity, Digital Forensics, Cryptography, Web security, and Maths among others.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Continue to update knowledge and expertise and contribute to innovation and development in own field.
  • Obtain a PGCert qualification within 2 years of employment
  • Deliver excellent teaching of elements within an established programme of study
  • Be responsible for the pastoral care of students, referring on to appropriate student support services where necessary
  • Identify areas for development in course content/delivery/pedagogic practice and revise/update/improve as appropriate
  • Contribute to the design of new, innovative teaching programmes and modules
  • Provide curriculum and course leadership
  • Supervise undergraduate student projects
  • Supervise and examine postgraduate research students 
  • Supervise with appropriate support Ph.D. work
  • Extend and transform knowledge and expertise when applying it to research, teaching and enterprise activities
  • Continue to develop an international reputation through published work and/or contribution to external networks, professional bodies or external examining roles
  • Plan and undertake individual or collaborative research projects as a leader
  • Demonstrate societal or industrial impact
  • Continue to develop skills and knowledge in teaching methods and techniques mark assessments
  • Assess student progress and provide structured and timely feedback
  • Continue to develop an understanding of cultural, linguistic, professional and personal ways of interacting, communicating and working with others in an international working environment
  • Work effectively with all colleagues and students on routine matters, assisting where appropriate
  • Perform effectively in their own role and work well in collaboration with other members of a teaching or research team
  • Develop good internal and external networks to further their own knowledge and understanding and to seed relationships for future collaborations
  • Attend and contribute constructively at meetings
  • Plan and manage own day-to-day work, prioritizing own activity within an agreed framework

AND such other duties as are within the scope of the spirit of the job purpose, the title of the post and its grading.
 

Job Requirements

  • The candidate should be a Ph.D. holder in a relevant subject.
  • The candidate should have a proven record of teaching experience at a higher education institution.
  • The candidate should have demonstrated academic leadership at a module or course level.
  • The candidate should have published peer-reviewed papers in high impact factor journals.
  • The candidate should preferably have had leading role – coordinator or scientific supervisor – in a funded research project.
  • The candidate should have excellent English skills, both written and oral.
  • The candidate should be willing to travel locally, nationally, and internationally as required to undertake academic and related activities.
  • Have extensive experience and international profile in their subject/discipline
