Cold Chain Consultant

Background:

The Global Cold Chain Alliance (GCCA) is an alliance of four international business associations comprised of companies within the perishable foods supply chain and logistics industry.  These associations are the Core Partners of the Alliance and include the International Association of Refrigerated Warehouses (IARW), World Food Logistics Organizations (WFLO), International Refrigerated Transportation Association (IRTA) and Controlled Environment Builders Association (CEBA). 

GCCA-WFLO is currently partnered with Abt Associates on the Egypt Rural Agribusiness Strengthening (ERAS) project. ERAS employs a buyer-led, systems-strengthening approach to improve the competitiveness of horticulture producers and related downstream businesses and food processors by developing their abilities to respond to domestic and international buyer demand. WFLO supports the cold chain elements of this project with a focus on capacity building and the introduction of new technologies through demonstration. 

The Global Cold Chain Alliance (GCCA) is recruiting for a local (Egypt-based) Cold Chain Consultant to support an ongoing USAID-funded project. 

The project value chains are: Green beans; Onions; Tomatoes; Potatoes; Pomegranate; Grapes; Dates; Mangoes; Fennel; Basil; Strawberries; and Artichokes

Tasks and Responsibilities:

All work will be undertaken at the direction of and in collaboration with the Postharvest Technical Advisor and in accordance with the approved workplan and subsequent Action Plan. 

• Determine potential intervention opportunities for cold chain development in Upper Egypt and Delta
• Introduce and roll out innovative, low cost initiatives to address gaps and lead to better utilization of assets concerning the cold chain.
• Support implementation of new cold chain technologies, tools or handling practices.
• Support additional GCCA experts to build the capacity of cold chain actors through capacity building workshops, cold chain expos, B2B programs, and other activities as designated by the Postharvest Technical Advisor.
• Assist with monitoring and evaluation activities including data collection, interviews, determination of outcomes as compared with baseline assessments and project goals.

Deliverables

• Provide written reports upon request
• Provide written inputs based upon field findings

Assignment Duration: 115 days per day
