Job Description

Purpose of the Consultancy

The purpose of the consultancy is to support the detection, verification, risk assessment and communication of acute public health events, including the projects of the DVA team. In addition, he/she will assist in the data analysis training of the HIM Unit, in collaboration with the WHO-AFRO. Also, with the ongoing global outbreak of COVID-19, the consultant will also support in surge deployments to strengthen the detection, verification, risk assessment and communication of acute public health events in the country.

Main Goal

Contribute to the identification or selection of possible epidemiologists to support the HIM Regional office in the Epidemic Intelligence (EI) which is crucial to meeting the 13th General Programme of Work (GPW) 2019-2023, 2.3.1 Output: potential health emergencies rapidly detected, and risks assessed and communicated.

Specific objectives

  • Identify experts in epidemiology in the Regional Office in Cairo who have expertise in Epidemic Intelligence, field epidemiology, risk assessment
  • Ensure a faster and more credible selection of experts and/or candidates to provide support in the detection, verification, risk assessment, data analysis and management and communicating acute public health events.

Expected products

  • The roster of epidemiologists is established and ready to be used for recruiting in support of the Regional Office-Eastern Mediterranean-Health Emergency Information and Risk Assessment (HIM) with view of achieving the GPW13 Output 2.3.1

Job Requirements

Qualifications

Education:

Essential: First level University degree in Public Health or Medicine or Veterinary Medicine

Desirable: Master’s Degree in Public Health or related Field

Experience required:

  • At least two-year of progressive professional experience in public health, epidemiology or information management either in public or private sector. At least one-year experience in conducting EI, risk assessment or monitoring and evaluation.
  • Experience in data management which includes data collection, cleaning, analysis and report generation is an advantage.

Language:

Essential: Excellent Knowledge of English.

Desirable: Good knowledge of Arabic Language

Skills/Technical skills and knowledge:

  • Demonstrated knowledge of public health, emergency response, communicable disease control, and risk assessment;
  • Demonstrated knowledge in health information management;
  • Expertise in capacity building in information management for health;
  • Good knowledge of WHO mandate and goals and UN programmes;
  • Proven ability to communicate effectively. Excellent communication and writing skills;
  • Ability to work effectively in a cross-cultural and multi-disciplinary environment;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work under pressure.
