Job Description

This position will be considered a technology generalist; someone with deep technical expertise across multiple products and technologies and strong interpersonal and consultative selling skills. While this is a technology generalist position, strong experience in the Data Center Practice. solutions is highly desired. The SE is responsible for providing the technical and solution expertise required to support and optimize sales and marketing activities, often in very complex technological, multi-vendor competitive situations. The position is rewarded in part based on sales results.

  • Smart System is looking to expand our Sales Engineering Team specific to our Data Center Practice.
  • We are specifically seeking an experienced, performance-driven engineer who is seeking a dynamic pre-sales opportunity where you take ownership of the overall technical direction and growth customers.
  • You’ve got to be a strategic player who can assist with driving activities, opportunities, and business for the overall success and revenue of our Data Center solutions. If you’re a data center engineer who has a knack for communicating with customers in order to truly understand, define and articulate their business needs in order to create the best data center solution, Force 3 is looking for you!
  • As a Data Center pre-sales engineer, you will be responsible for technical Pre-Sales Consulting and building relationships with our customers.
  • You will also need to be creative and drive initiatives with our sales teams to evangelize the practice and solutions we provide.

Your specific duties as a Data Center Sales Engineer will include:

  • Focus on identifying opportunities within the Data Center environment
  • Build and foster relationships with customers and lead pre-sales initiatives for the practice.
  • Identify and develop new business opportunities by supporting Account Managers, the delivery team, and marketing initiatives.
  • Pursue and participate in opportunities in both the public and private sectors.
  • Work with our sales teams to raise awareness of practice strategy and offerings to drive revenue.
  • Provide our customers with 100% success and be a true trusted advisor.
  • Lead our Bids and Proposals initiatives as technical SME for Data Center opportunities.
  • Exceed revenue and gross profit goals.
  • Present solutions at customer meetings, trade shows, and Force 3 blogs and marketing.
  • Act as a subject matter expert in the design, architecture and presentation of technical solutions
  • Attend customer meetings to help identify and qualify sales opportunities with the sales team
  • Specify equipment and estimate consulting, installation and support requirements
  • Deliver the technical development of proposal content (BOMs & SOWs), presentations, RFI / RFP responses, and technical demonstrations, etc.
  • Some implementation and support responsibilities may occasionally be required.

Job Requirements

  • At least 8+ years of solid pre-sales experience focused on Data Center solutions, architectures, and design.
  • We should have a strong understanding of automation and orchestration specific to Data Center technologies to include open-source, including VMware Tools.
  • Experience and current certifications in VMware, Dell/EMC and/or other relevant Data Center technologies.
  • Proficient level knowledge of the fundamental concepts, practices and procedures of particular field of specialization with ability to apply concepts. (Operating Systems or hypervisors, Server, Storage)
  • Working knowledge of business systems and outcomes with the ability to understand the impact of solution design and implementation on customer's business strategic objectives and requirements
  • Excellent verbal communication skills with the ability to translate technology-related jargon to diverse groups of technical and non- technical users
  • Excellent written communication skills with the ability to develop technical documents
  • Demonstrates a drive for achievement, adaptability/flexibility, dependability, persistence, and tolerance of stressful situations
  • Self-motivated with ability to perform quality work within deadlines and budget with or without direct supervision
  • Strong analytical thinking, problem solving, appropriate judgment, and decision-making skills
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite with ability to create a document or simple spreadsheet
  • Proficient level in the development of Product Bill of Materials and basic system designs
  • Other certifications from server or storage vendors (Dell/EMC, Cisco, HPE, Veeam, AWS, Red Hat) are desirable.
  • Experience in other technologies areas such as SAN, Backup Recovery, Switch, Security technologies and Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI).
  • Must be able to explain public, private and hybrid cloud concepts. This is not a cloud developer role though the candidate should be able to design infrastructure to support workloads using cloud concepts.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills with the ability to adapt to various business needs.
  • Experience working with all organization levels including, engineering, operations, management, and executives.
  • Must be abreast of industry trends and new technologies.
  • Should have a conceptual and architectural understanding of virtualization concepts in the data center to include hypervisors, containers, NFV and network virtualization, HCI, VDI, and more…
  • Experience developing and fostering key revenue-driven relationships.
  • Must be capable of working well both independently or as part of a team.
  • Data Center partner experience is a plus.
  • Must have good leadership skills.
  • Any industry certifications relevant to a pre-sales solutions architect are a plus (CCIE, CCNP, CCNA, VCP, VCDX, etc.)
