Job Description
The successful applicant will work in the educational Biology Laboratories of the Biomedical Sciences Program. He/ She will have to work with different equipment and reagents to assist a team of dedicated faculty members and peers. The job duties include, but are not limited to:
- Support continuous upgrade of experiments by using latest scientific methods and techniques.
- Assist and support peers and teaching assistants (TAs) in different lab sections.
- Consult with peers, teaching assistants and professors on new products to keep up-to-date with the latest technologies and techniques used in lab experiments.
- Prepare procedures and manuals for several educational experiments (SOP’s).
- Assist in developing lab equipment’s data base (supplier, initial cost, catalogues, maintenance procedure & cost, calibration, SOP, operation logger, etc.).
- Assist in the planning, maintenance, and repair of functional equipment in laboratories. Assess equipment to troubleshoot any problems that may arise.
- Assist in developing a system for checking on the inventories (glassware, instruments, electrodes, recorders, data loggers, stirrers etc.)
- Assist in performing financial & asset management of lab equipment.
- Assist in developing Lab equipment maintenance program of the lab and its facilities via in house or via service-contracts.
Job Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Science or relative discipline.
- Ability to handle animals and different laboratory equipment (Microscopes, Thermal Cycler, Gel Electrophoresis, Centrifuge, etc.).
- Knowledge of laboratory safety regulations and precautions. Excellent Computer Skills.
- 1-2 years of experience in a relevant laboratory facility.
- Biology, Microbiology, Biotechnology, Molecular Biology or a related field.
- Excellent English and Arabic.
