Job Description

Preparation of the hospital for accreditation:

  • The quality manager is responsible to the hospital top management for preparing the hospital for accreditation whether national or international.
  • In such capacity he is responsible for:
  • Creation of awareness among hospital staff about the need and value of accreditation.
  • Dissemination of accreditation standards relevant to each department.
  • Organizing training necessary for all staff categories.
  • Development of work systems in different departments are required
  • Involvement of top management in quality activities through regular staff meetings and relevant reports.
  • Creation of the different committees required for accreditation.

Organizing internal audit activities:

  • The quality manager is responsible for creating a strong internal audit mechanism that monitors and evaluates the achievement and continued maintenance of accreditation standards through:
  • Training auditors from different departments on professional audit skills.
  • scheduling regular audits through the hospital
  • reporting audit results to top management and relevant departments
  • Following corrective action with the relevant departments.

Quality improvement activities :

  • The quality manager is responsible for creation of a continuous quality improvement culture within the organization. This entails recognizing possible areas for quality improvement, choosing relevant improvement projects, organizing and leading quality improvement teams till specific objectives are achieved.

Committee membership :

  • The quality manager is a member of the hospital top management team. Quality manager will sit on different committees such as infection control committee, morbidity and mortality committee, drug utilization committee etc.

Quality organization : -

  • The quality manager is responsible for a quality department and system for supervising and delivering quality programs throughout the hospital.

Organizing external audit :

  • The quality manager is responsible for arranging external quality audit activities on the hospital whether as part of accreditation or otherwise e.g. ISO certification or 2nd party audits prior to certain contracts with prospective clients.

Customer related activities :-

  • The quality manager is responsible for collecting and analyzing data related to customer satisfaction and customer needs and complaints. Based on findings he will suggest to top management relevant policies to meet customer expectations.

Job Requirements

  • University education in nursing, pharmacy, medicine or other health related field.
  • Master’s Degree in any of the above fields.
  • Certification as a Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality (CPHQ).
  • 5 years of experience in hospital quality, patient safety and risk management.
  • 2 years as a director of quality department in a general hospital.
  • Specialized training in any of the above fields or specialties.
