Job Description

Main Purpose:

  • Providing technical support and advice to the Head of Mission and Medical Coordinator related to the pharmacy regulations in the country and ensure stock procurement for medical items and medical equipment.

Accountabilities:

  • Supporting the Head of Mission and Medical Coordinator in representing MSF in the meetings with Ministry of Health and other local authorities or local suppliers for any issue concerning to medical supplies following the national law and regulations.
  • In coordination with Project Medical Referents and supply team, collaborating in budgeting and preparing medical supplies/medical equipment orders and annual forecast for every project according to the medical order calendar defined by the mission. Submit the medical orders to the Medical Coordinator for validation.
  • In coordination with the projects, monitory and supervision of the medicines donated to partners.
  • Ensuring the proper implementation of MSF medical procurement standards, waste management protocols, according to the national regulation.
  • Supporting the Medical Coordinator regarding the follow-up of EPREP planning and maintenance of medical kits.
  • Supporting and participating in all medical material supply processes and ensuring its overall efficiency and effectiveness. This involves 60% support to Maadi clinic and 40% regular technical visits to other project sites to ensure appropriate follow up of activities related to the medical items/supply donations.
  • Supporting activities at service level: follow up of pharmaceutical care plans, patient counseling, and analysis the quality of the prescriptions.
  • Facilitating correct stock management and transport/storage procedures, in order to ensure the availability of medical supply stock in all projects and to avoid expires /overstocks and stock-outs. Ensuring that all inventories of medical supply and medical devices exist and are updated in close collaboration with Supply team-Logistics Department.
  • Being responsible for follow-up of loans/donations and management of expired medical items according to MSF procedures (and national legislation in case of expired medical items)
  • Participating in reporting according to MSF guidelines (monthly, quarterly report) and reporting on medical items consumption and medical devices dispensed according to protocols, informing on unusual patterns.
  • Monitoring the procurement process and taking corrective measures when needed, ensuring regular communication with Medical, Supply, logistics, HR and Finance departments regarding Medical Supply and medical equipment management.
  • Update the Standard list of the medical items for every project and make mission standard list of medical items following MSF tools.
  • Supervising orders of medical items and material in every project in order to ensure an efficient and appropriate consumption.
  • Make training of nursing staff of Maadi clinic regarding to proper counseling to the patients related to the treatment plan and their side effects.
  • Regular monitory the effectiveness of medication adherence and provide the outcomes/feedback to the clinicians.
  • Provide training and support to the partners (health staff) related to the proper storage and medical prescription for the patients
  • On request, and needed fill the gap of the nurse who provide counseling to the patients how to take the medications.

Job Requirements

Education:

  • Essential: pharmacy degree (or equivalent 4-5 years diploma according to the country of origin of the pharmacist).

Experience:

  • Essential demonstrated two years’ experience in (hospital) pharmacy management, previous experience with MSF or other NGO’s in developing countries is desirable.

Languages:

  • Mission working language, English essential.

Knowledge

  • Essential computer literacy (word, excel, internet).
  • Desirable knowledge of “Isy stock”.
