Job Description
- Oversee Health, Safety, Security and Environmental and ensure company policy and legal compliance, within the Area
- Overseeing security guarding contractual management and ensure contractors comply to legislation within the Area.
- Assist Maersk management in security contractual negotiations.
- Execute Safety and Security Audits of all Maersk/ Safmarine entities throughout the Area and follow up to continually improve workplace Safety and Security standards and ensure compliance to Maersk A/S policy and legislation.
- Develop and maintain network with SARS, SAPS, State Security, US Customs, US Investigators, Reserve Bank Investigators, SA Navy on a National, Provincial and local basis, to ensure business continuity.
- Develop and maintain relationships with internal and external customers. Equipment, Intermodal, Claims, Front Office, Sales and LOC.
- Liaise and assist vendors/ suppliers on matters relating to container pilferage and seal discrepancies
- Liaise with State warehouse to reduce full long-standing containers dwell time in conjunction with SARS
- Liaise with vendors to destroy cargo on instruction from the state.
- Drive criminal investigations when mandated by management and assist relevant law enforcement.
- Investigate External/ Internal fraud on mandate and report back to management.
- Report exposure hours and LTI’s
- Investigate all workplace accidents, define the root cause and implement proactive measures.
- Assist and develop security procedures at new facilities.
- Maintain Safety and Security standards as per policy and local legislation.
- Assist management and customers on carrier haulage security.
- Ensure security standards meet CTPAT requirements.
- Oversee that safety related training of employees is current. E.g. first aiders, health and safety reps and fire marshals.
- Assisting the Procurement Department with procuring security technology.
- Maintain BCP (Business Continuity Plan) and testing thereof
- Analyse safety and security risk profile for Area and establish contingency plans for potential incidents.
- Define Area security procedures and set-up triggers for instituting crisis management or preventive measures.
- Establish a 24/7 capability to assist Area and Country Managers in emergencies (e.g. hostage taking, terrorist attack, civil unrest etc.) under guidance of the Group Security Crisis Management Team (SCMT).
- Appoint security consultants on adhoc basis as per business requirement. (Training, investigation, background checks or executive protection)
- Provide Maersk employees with security training (e.g. CCID training and anti-hijack training)
- Keep country managers abreast of risks, e.g. political and crime.
- Assist employees wrt to Legal enforcement investigations.
- Company mandated to liaise with law enforcement wrt criminal investigations. Draft statements for criminal investigation and ensure Company Name is never brought into disrepute
- Manage Seal distribution in the Area and audit depot compliance to Maersk seal policy
- Order seals with seal vendor for seal distributor.
- Work hand in hand with the Regional Security Manager
Job Requirements
- Previous management experience with a background in either the following: Safety and Security in logistics, rail or military.
- Leadership experience and proven results within Container management is an advantage
- Experience in communicating and driving goals Top and Middle management with external stakeholders.
- 10 – 15 years or more experience in Safety and Security with container business is the aim, however a combination of management talent and proven portfolio will count as a strong qualifier as well.
- A qualification which includes a legal background will be an added advantage.
- Fluency in English and Arabic essential
