Job Description

The Opportunity EY is looking for an experienced generalist lawyer with good contracts experience to work with us in the in-house legal team supporting the MENA business. As the role will support multiple locations across the region, we welcome applicants from any of the MENA countries such as Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Lebanon, Jordan, Egypt, Palestine, and the rest of the region. Your key responsibilities As a Legal Counsel within EY, you will be a focal point of contact for delivering advice related to various legal issues which may include contracts, policies, procedures, mergers & acquisitions, master service agreements, tenders, ongoing projects within EY, and much more.Subsequently, you can expect to quickly become a trusted and reliable advisor to the firm as you work with colleagues across the MENA region’s business. As part of the in-house legal team, you will be reporting directly to the MENA General Counsel. Skills and attributes for success You should be a licensed generalist lawyer with around 7 years of post-qualification experience within an in-house function or law firm in the MENA region, ideally that of GCC countries (preferably the UAE and Saudi Arabia). Ideally, you will also possess strong contracts experience.

Job Requirements

  • At least 7 years of post-qualification experience
  • Employment law experience gained in either a reputable firm (or equivalent) and/or in-house function
  • Commercial awareness of the business issues facing the organisation and the ability to deal with problems in a practical and intuitive way
  • Proven ability to establish a high degree of credibility, respect and trust at all levels, including with senior members of the firm, some of whom have a considerable understanding of the law
  • The capability to lead, take responsibility and act autonomously; including an ability to take difficult decisions and provide substantiated arguments
  • Strong personal communication skills, capable of dealing with wide range of people
  • Effective planning and organising skills to prioritise key areas of responsibility, tasks and projects
  • The ability to keep calm in a crisis and to cope well with conflicting deadlines
  • Strong negotiation and influencing skills
  • Be a strong team player who is both committed and flexible

Ideally, you should also

  • Be fluent in Arabic and English, both spoken and written
  • Have experience with data privacy matters such as data access requests and record retention
  • Be able to operate with limited use of external counsel
  • Possess attention to detail in all aspects
