Cognos Consultant

Job Summary:

The Cognos Consultant role is a key liaison who is responsible for working directly with business users to translate their needs into useful data that will enable the larger organization to make strategic and informed decisions. The business currently leverages Cognos for its BI reporting projects and, while that will be a major focus of this position, this individual will also play an important role in the design, development, and maintenance of BI related software and systems, including integrations with databases and source systems, as well as helping to define the overall data warehouse architecture (e.g., ETL process, ODS, EDW, Data Marts). The candidate should be able to administer Cognos environments, including installation (V 11.x), upgrade, security, and configurations. Framework Manager development, as well as the design and development of reports, visualizations, and dashboards using Cognos BI would be daily parts of candidate responsibilities. The candidate will work with business users and should have strong communication and interpersonal skills. Outstanding analytical and problem solving skills are essential.

Job Description:

• Work independently with users to define BI concepts, information needs and defining functional requirements, specifications and recommendations related to a proposed solution
• Lead and perform complex analysis in an evolving data environment.
• Extract and analyze data, patterns, and related trends as needed, with the subsequent ability to synthesize the data into information consumable by organization.
• Ensure high levels of Business Intelligence system availability through support functions and in-depth testing.
• Responsible for the efficient, compliant, timely, secure acquisition, integration, provision, and exchange of the enterprise data.
• Work with external vendors and internal business and technology staff to accurately gather and interpret requirements, specifications, and database models to determine appropriate data warehouse development solutions.
• Design and prepare all metadata models in coordination with framework manager.
• Develop Cognos Reports and Dashboards.
• Manage and support the multi-server Cognos reporting infrastructure.
• Develop and maintain models in IBM Cognos Framework Manager to meet business requirements.
• Develop and provide Cognos training to users when required.
• Translate requirements from the business into Cognos solutions, recommending solution approaches.

• Troubleshoot data issues that occur and communicate with the appropriate groups to correct the issues..
