Job Description
I. Planning & Monitoring Process
- Deliver competence based programs for nursing staff with a focus upon improvement of skills and retention of knowledge.
- Assist in following up with clinical performance in units and floors.
- Assistant to coordinate orientation of new staff to the organization.
- Assistant to incorporate principles of adult learning in the planning, implementation and evaluation of education programs.
- Assistant to evaluate the effectiveness of educational programming.
- Determine the nursing skills and knowledge required to achieve the desired levels of health care delivery/service.
- Assistant to identified educational needs to promote quality patient care and safety.
- Assistant to consult with staff regarding individual learning needs.
II. Operational Excellence Process
- Assess competencies of all categories of staff within the nursing department.
- Assist to conduct needs assessments using a variety of strategic tools.
- Assists learners in the assessment of needs and identification of outcomes.
- Assist to provide expert advice to nurses on professional conduct and clinical practice.
- Assistant to prepare short and long term planning and programs to address identified needs.
- Assistant to teach content as needed and/or assigned within clinical expertise to facilitate orientation, staff development and/or safe practice.
- Promote safe and efficient delivery of care.
- Assistant to support the integration of research into practice.
- Provide information to document effectiveness of role as a staff development educator in a daily Report.
- Incorporate current educational evidence into individual practice as a staff development expert.
- Interpret, communicate, and incorporate research findings into program planning.
- Facilitate the adult learning process, creating a climate which supports learning across the hospital system.
- Respond to changes in nursing practice and assistant to develop programs to support those changes.
- Ensure those educational programs are congruent with organizational mission, values and goals.
- Maintain flexibility when managing multiple roles and responsibilities.
- Interpret and communicate across multiple disciplines.
- Promote a safe and healthy work environment.
- Attend meetings as a nursing team representative.
- Maintain required educational and/or clinical competencies.
- Seek opportunities to develop staff in various roles.

III. Innovation Process
- Obtains required data in order to support departmental and hospital clinical/financial needs.
- Assistant to develop / coordinate education plans related to initial and ongoing competency validation.
- Assistant to Plan, prepare and maintain materials for use in educational programs for accuracy and relevance to the target audience.
- Assistant to collaborate with the Educational team to recommend educational strategies for the implementation of clinical standards.
