Job Description

General Summary

Assistant Mechanical Maintenance & Workshop Manager facilitates with technical support to Mechanical maintenance team for smooth operation of mill (minimize down time and increase the mill availability & consumption of spares with cost consciousness).

Duties and Responsibilities

Facilitation & Assistance:

  • Assist in preparing staff reports, task and targets, development plan, training and leave schedules.
  • Support in implementing maintenance plans for all mechanical equipment’s of Material Handling in coordination with the planning section.
  • Minimizing the impact on production, the Assistant Manager schedules, coordinates, and oversees the Plant's mechanical and electrical maintenance activities.
  • Establishes the Maintenance Department's daily, weekly, and monthly work schedules based on information from 4 sources - specific requests, the preventive maintenance program, inspection, and predictive based work orders.

Implement Delivery Targets:

  • Implement plans for resources and activities and ensure deliveries are met according to agreed tasks and targets in a professional, responsible and cost effective manner.
  • Responsible for all plant and mobile equipment maintenance.
  • Electrical and mechanical requirements so that effective planning and work scheduling by subordinates can be accomplished in a cost effective, timely and satisfactory manner in order to achieve plant production goals.
  • Remain informed of all plant operations and, through effective communication with operations personnel, and be able to provide a positive contribution to the overall operation of the plant.
  • Contributes to all work being completed in an efficient and timely manner by coordinating the activities of the Inspection, Planning and Execution functions of Mechanical maintenance organization
  • Participates in an ongoing property improvement plan and preventative maintenance program.
  • Assists Maintenance Manager with proper levels of inventory.

Safety, Quality & Environment:

  • Understand and comply with Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) policies to assure that environment, health and safety are the first priority of the business.
  • Actively support key safety initiatives at the facility and assist the department as needed to improve EHS performance and results.

Policies and Procedural Implementation:

  • Contribution regarding the establishment of plant policies and procedures concerning the maintenance department and general operations

Working Relationships (internal):

  • Working in Rolling Mill #1
  • To lead Rolling Mill #1 Mechanical Maintenance Team
  • Support Departmental Manger Mechanical Maintenance & Workshop

Direct Manager: HSM Manager

Key Performance Indicators

  • Retain ‘Health, Safety and Environment’ with Zero accidents incurred by personnel
  • Resource Planning’ for cost for repairs, maintenance and downtime
  • Retain ‘availability of mill’ through ensuring scheduling and preparing equipment’s
  • Lead ‘ corrective action’ for prompt clarification, resolutions and results of problems
  • Rectification of reviewed equipment with ‘smooth transition and production’
  • Any other KPIS and discussed and agreed during annual PMS

Education Qualifications

Degree in Mechanical Engineering

Professional Experience (Must haves)

  • About 6-8 years’ experience in Mechanical maintenance in long product hot rolling as Maintenance Head or equivalent.
  • 5 Years in a Management Position
  • 3-4 Years in implementation of engineering principles

Knowledge, Skills and/or Abilities (attributes) required

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and abilities required.

    • Effective communication skill.
    • Knowledge of IT (MS - Office) & SAP (Plant Maintenance & Material Management).
    • Knowledge & Experience of CBM / RCM / TPM.
    • Good knowledge in preventive and corrective maintenance of Rolling Mill.
    • knowledge of ISO 9000 / 14000 and OHSAS 18000 standard
