Job Description

Accountabilities

  • Carrying out evaluation of mental health needs of patients and establishing a diagnosis and a plan of treatment. Informing the patient and his/her relatives about the possible consequences of the illness and the drug treatment to follow and referring patients to other health professionals whenever necessary, in order to provide the most appropriate treatment and improve the patient's condition
  • Implementing the Sexual Gender Based Violence (SGBV) protocol, identifying possible victims of SGBV and referring them to the medical team so that they receive the necessary treatment.
  • Providing psychological support and psychotherapy sessions (individual, family, group) to patients according to MSF protocols in order to improve their mental health conditions
  • Assisting and training staff members and resourceful people whenever necessary in order to enhance the scope of MH activities. Working in close collaboration with translators in order to ensure appropriate terminology and behavior during sessions
  • Collecting statistical and monitoring data about mental health activities
  • Informing the supervisor and the medical team about any issues or problems that may arise related to patients’ treatment in order to provide the best possible solution from a medical perspective
  • Ensuring that all patient information is kept confidential.

MSF Section/Context Specific Accountabilities

PURPOSE

  • Assess Mental Health and Psychosocial Support needs of target population.
  • Provide psychological support to patients according MSF principles and protocols in order to improve the patients’ mental health.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assess whether the patient meets the admission criteria defined in the project.
  • Assess the needs of patients, psychological, medical and social.
  • Identify the psychological symptoms and psychiatric disorders.
  • Conduct a psychological assessment.
  • Attend in an appropriate welcoming and confidential manner all patients seeking care in the facility.
  • Assess and evaluate at all times the changes in mental health needs/ identification of specific vulnerable subgroups(s) within the target population in collaboration with the medical team.
  • Inform the Mental Health Manager and the medical team about any issues or problems that may arise related to patients’ assessment and treatment in order to provide the best quality of services.
  • Provide comprehensive mental health care according to the clinics’ guidelines and protocols.
  • Provide psychological support to patients according to MSF protocols to improve their mental health conditions and establish a plan of treatment in the frame of short term therapy.
  • Provide information on pertinent psychological issues and concerns and psycho-education for patients, their families, relatives and community members when needed.
  • Assess the need of support group activities, activity sessions, to plan and develop accordingly.
  • Identify priorities for action.
  • Participate and provide input to the Mental Health team meetings and case discussions.
  • Ensure complete documentation of all cases new and follow up, in the patient file and statistic sheets.
  • Ensure that all patient information is kept confidential.
  • Actively participate in all meetings and training planned in the project.
  • Report all information linked to clinical cases.
  • Referral of Patients
  • Refer patients to other MSF health professionals according to the internal procedure whenever necessary in order to provide the most appropriate treatment.
  • Refer patients to social workers whenever necessary.

Job Requirements

Education

  • Bachelor of Psychology (mandatory)
  • Minimum 2 (two) years of experience in clinical psychology (mandatory)
  • Master Degree in Psychology (Desirable)

Experience

  • Experience in Mental Health,
  • Experience in SGBV or Trauma is an asset
  • Experience within a multidisciplinary team desirable
  • Interest in working with migrants from different nationalities
  • Communication aptitude, open-mindedness, creativity, pro-activity
  • Good problem solving skills
  • Good knowledge on mental health approach and prevention/promotion and treatment models in Mental Health
  • Good writing and reporting skills
  • Computer knowledge (word, internet, excel) an asset.
