Job Description

Job brief

The primary job function of the area manager is to organize, oversee and manage the operations of a number of stores and assume overall responsibility for the success of their stores by setting targets, supervising store managers, directing all operational aspects of each store and driving sales whilst minimizing costs.

They are responsible for ensuring that all store managers and their staff keep stores to the highest possible standards, being well organized and properly merchandised at all times; and that all policies, procedures and controls are followed – this will also include stock control to ensure store shrinkage is within company guidelines so as to protect company property and assets.

The goal is to ensure our stores will meet and exceed expectations of business development and efficiency, by managing diverse operations from a distance and have a strategic mindset and excellent leadership skills.

Responsibilities

  • The ability to understand and adapt to change management initiatives.
  • Set standards and objectives for different stores and departments
  • Set sales and operational goals and expectations, and ensure that those goals are and expectations are achieved through regular monitoring
  • Optimize and oversee operations to ensure efficiency
  • Undertake sound financial management to ensure stores are profitable and stay within budget
  • Lead a team of store managers towards effective collaboration and attainment of goals, this goes as far as overseeing the performance management of the entire store management team to achieve the desired results in supporting the business
  • Regular store visits to ensure compliance in all areas of customer service, store operations, and loss prevention
  • Provide constructive guidance to store managers and the team related to all areas of effective operations, to ensure compliance with company’s policies and operational guidelines
  • Evaluate performance using key metrics and address issues to improve it
  • Deal with problems by providing creative and practical solutions
  • Maintain competitive awareness by continuously monitoring the competition and then reacting accordingly to maintain the business advantage
  • Report to upper management on progress and issues

Job Requirements

Requirements

  • Proven experience as area manager, store manager, assistant manager or similar managerial role
  • Excellent organizational and leadership abilities
  • Excellent problem-solving abilities
  • Excellent abilities in financial and operations planning are also essential for the role
  • Knowledge of performance evaluation metrics and principles
  • Understanding of optimization of store operations and standards for success
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal abilities
  • Working knowledge of ERP software
