Job Description
JOB SUMMARY
The Senior Contracts Specialist / Engineer is responsible for preparing, reviewing and supporting the administration of design contracts between K&A and its clients. The jobholder supports project teams with contractual advice and activities throughout the design project lifecycle, including proposal development, design delivery and tendering stages. The jobholder contributes in preparing the terms and conditions for K&A’s project cooperation agreements with external parties (e.g. joint ventures, partners, suppliers). He/She conducts analysis on the organization’s overall contractual risk exposure and recommends mitigation measures to address risks.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AREAS AND ACTIVITIES OF THE ROLE
- Provide expert advice to Contracts Sections in Regions for the preparation and administration of supervision contracts, as needed
- Prepare / review contract terms and conditions for K&A design contracts
- Assess contractual impact of design project scope changes, including suitability of claims, variation orders and other relevant impacts
- Review and assess claims and variation orders arising from design contracts between K&A and clients
- Support in settling disputes arising from design contracts between K&A and clients
- Provide input on claims, variation orders and disputes arising from design changes during the supervision stage
- Develop contract terms and conditions for project cooperation agreements with external suppliers and subcontractors
- Consolidate design projects risks and conduct analyses on the K&A’s contractual risk exposure and devise mitigation measures
- Provide support to design Project Managers in the development of risk plans as part of project management plans, as needed
- Provide contractual advice to Project Managers and design teams during design delivery, as needed
- Support Quantity Surveying teams with the preparation of conditions of contract as part of tender documents, as required
Job Requirements
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering / Architecture / Construction Management
- Master’s Degree in Construction Management is preferred
SKILLS
- Familiarity with local laws regulating the engineering and construction sectors in the Middle East
- Good communication and negotiation skills
- Good attention to details, efficiency, and quality
- Strong analytical and problem solving capabilities
- Good communication skills
- Good interpersonal and leadership skills
- Proficiency in spoken and written English and Arabic
EXPERIENCE TO EXECUTE THIS ROLE
- 10+ years of experience in contracts preparation, review and administration in a top tier regional / multinational engineering consultancy firm
- Knowledge of standard conditions of contract, including such conditions as those developed by the FIDIC, AIA, EJCDC, ICE, and other similar
- Exposure to negotiating, writing, and interpreting terms, conditions, and requirements of contractual agreements
- Exposure to global best practices and trends in the Architecture, Engineering and Planning Industry, in particular related to contracts
- Significant experience within the Middle East
