Job Description

Tour operators are responsible for organizing and preparing holiday tours. They follow trends in the popularity of destinations and packages, and adjust company plans accordingly.

The tasks carried out on a daily basis by a tour operator include:

  1. Providing general and specific advice about different travel destinations
  2. Drawing up complicated travel itineraries and ensuring that all the needs of the customers are met
  3. Advising the customer about travel issues including required documentation and financial matters, such as appropriate exchange rates
  4. Using the computer database to research information about hotel accommodation fares and hotel ratings
  5. Dealing with payments
  6. Dealing with complaints in an efficient manner
  7. Planning and advertising different promotions
  8. Making alternative arrangements for customers who have had their trips interrupted by unforeseen issues
  9. Evaluating customers’ holidays and issuing appropriate feedback forms
  10. Making presentations to travel groups

Job Requirements

    • Customer service – in this role, tour operators interface directly with clients to resolve issues and answer questions, so effective customer service skills are a necessity
    • Negotiation – tour operators frequently negotiate with hotel management, charter bus companies, and airlines to receive the best rates for their tour group members, so negotiation skills are vital
    • Team coordination – tour operators work with tour leaders, travel agents, and group representatives to organize and direct all aspects of a tour, so they need to effectively coordinate teams and schedules
    • Communication skills – written and verbal communication skills are important in this role as well, since tour operators work with clients, venues, and travel professionals throughout the tour
    • Language Skills - Knowledge of the structure and content of the Spanish/ English languages including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar
    • Microsoft Office Skills : MS Word - MS EXCEL - MS Power Point - Ms Outlook
