Job Description

Job Purpose

Implement EHS Internal control framework at Cairo site

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develops and makes recommendations to senior management regarding EHS policy and strategies for the site. Develops systems to ensure duty of care is provided in areas such as occupational hygiene, hazardous operations studies, ergonomic assessment, hazard communication and health surveillance programmes.
  • Establishes strong working relationships with production staff, Commercial management, relevant managers, and consultants. Through action and review of these relationships demonstrates accountability with a focus on customer service.
  • Works cooperatively across boundaries and the matrix to achieve results.
  • Conducts thorough and careful analysis of data, gathers critical information, effectively allocates/reassesses required organizational resources, and delivers quality solutions to EHS issues.
  • Proactively identifies EHS issues and delivers efficient responses to EHS improvement opportunities
  • Develop policies, procedures and risk assessment methods and support their implementation to enable managers to effectively achieve EHS performance objectives in their departments or comply with EHS regulations in order to reduce or mitigate activities associated risks/impacts.
  • Develop accident prevention and loss control systems for incorporation into the occupational policies of GSK.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of the EHS services and risk management throughout audits in GSK and act as EHS management system lead auditor.
  • Responsible for conducting regular audits in order to ensure the compliance with EHS Regulations and Global standards.
  • Improve EHS levels of compliance and evaluate suppliers/contractor performance regarding EHS issues.
  • Liaise with external regulatory and EHS authorities on Environmental, Health and Safety matters.
  • Supervise fire fighting team activities, ensure minimize risk of financial loss due to fires to minimum. Ensure the establishment of adequate fire precautions, the training of the fire fighting volunteered team and the regular maintenance of the automatic fire alarm system and fire fighting equipment.
  • Act as representative for ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001 and Play a key role in Emergency Team in order to mitigate emergency cases, financial losses, risks, and disasters.
  • Review, evaluate and approve facilities changes and new projects regarding EHS issues to ensure that all EHS matters are consider during planning and design stages to eliminate negative EHS impacts.
  • Function as an EHS specialist and leader in consulting with management and participate in development of emergency or disaster plans. Participate in site EHS committee as committee reporter
  • Prepare a business plan for EHS service, programme and/or projects and Support professional development of other EHS personnel.
  • Provide regular EHS information, data, analysis and annual projects to site management leaders to support decision taken considering EHS performance improvements

Job Requirements

Basic qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree Engineering (Chemical, Mechanical )
  • 5-7 Years’ experience as EHS safety
  • Certified as EHS Specialist, ie NEBOSCH Diploma, Regulatory EHS Specialist certification , Occupational H Diploma...etc and / or membership of Professional bodies.
