Job Description

Main Purpose

  • Provide outpatient and/or inpatient medical care to patients/beneficiaries according to adapted and updated medical knowledge, MSF protocols, values and universal hygiene standards to improve the patients/beneficiaries health conditions.

Accountabilities

  • Apply medical knowledge and skills to diagnose and prevention. Carry out general outpatient and post Sexual Violence consultations, prescribing the necessary treatment without delay and respecting MSF protocols.
  • Ensure emotional support throughout consultation (relationship of trust).
  • Guarantee confidentiality and correct handling of all documents related to the patient.
  • Evaluate the patient’s and/or his/her family’s understanding of the treatment received: purpose, side effects, correct intake. Give adapted advises. Ensure continuity of care.
  • Organize proper referral to external health facilities when the patient needs more investigations (lab., scan…).
  • Organize proper medical referrals of severe patients who can’t be treated in the MSF facility.
  • Check and control the rational distribution of medicines and equipment under his/her responsibility and take care the quality, disinfection and sterilization of the medical material. Assure general compliance with standing hygiene standards.
  • Participate in the collection and analysis of epidemiological data, checking its validity and informing the Project Medical Referent about any problem or complication of the patient’s illness, medical error and monitors the proper functioning of the department, equipment or material.
  • Ensure ongoing training of the medical/paramedical multidisciplinary team in order to optimize the quality of care.
  • Know and ensure all MSF medical protocols are followed and implemented, checking universal precautions are followed at all times and reducing biohazard risks and improving infection control. Ensures the respect of professional confidentiality.
  • Manage the team under his/her direct responsibility according to MSF HR policies and procedures, supervising their performance, organizing and scheduling shifts and rotations, directly participating in emergencies and on calls if necessary.
  • Work in a multidisciplinary dimension, collaborating with colleagues and respecting each other’s professional competencies.

MSF Section/Context Specific Accountabilities

  • The MSF Medical Doctor is responsible to implement and integrate in our partners’ health services specific activities agreed upon with the Project Medical Referent.

Specifically:

  • Ensure the integration of psychological support and SV medical care in the partners’ primary health/ SV services;
  • Assess the learning needs and increase the capacity/expertise of the medical and non medical staff to deliver comprehensive medical and mental health care to Sexual Violence patients coming to the health facilities;
  • Contribute to build the technical capacity of the existing MD-health staff of the partner NGOs through theoretical and hands on trainings;
  • Collaborate with the PMR for developing specific tools and organising trainings for a rapid and correct integration of SV and MH activities in the new set up;
  • On a regular basis organize multidisciplinary “case discussion” meetings in the health facilities and assessments of activities tackling the provided services for SV survivors;
  • Participate in the regular internal meetings of the partner NGOs if needed/or on request to coordinate the daily or weekly support activities with the rest of the partner team;
  • Participate in monitoring and evaluation of activities tackling victims of sexual violence;
  • Work in collaboration with colleagues, respecting each other professional competence;
  • Pay attention to personal mental health and refer any sign of early MH discomfort to the PMR in order to prevent burn out symptoms;
  • Other activities within the MH/SV services as per request of PMR.

Job Requirements

Education

  • Medical Doctor diploma

Experience

  • 2 + year experience minimum as a Medical Doctor or in clinical work (can be within medical training). Desirable post-registration experience in obstetrics and gynaecology, paediatrics, Public Health and/or experience in SGBV or SV
  • Previous experience with MSF or with other NGOs is a plus

Languages

  • Fluent in English and Arabic, both oral and written.
