Job Description

  • As a Business Development Specialist, you will play a lead role in supporting the Firm on a wide variety of initiatives, including developing and managing key client accounts, strengthening the Firm market position and winning new business, pitch materials, presentations, responses to requests for proposal, marketing content management, marketing communications, events, sponsorships and other general business development activities.
  • While supporting activities across legal departments and providing an enhanced level of support for business development activities, you are responsible for the understanding department and firm priorities in order to assist with business development projects and initiatives that support those interests.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop and drive business development and marketing efforts.
  • Deliver regular analysis and reporting of industry competition, market trends, internal financial information, business opportunities, and pitch activity in efforts to develop and implement focused strategies both globally and by region.
  • Stay abreast of developments and trends in an effort to identify potential client opportunities.
  • Remain informed of all major new clients and significant matters.
  • Ensure coverage of successful matters, initiatives, and products in key markets and significant matters are publicized internally and externally.
  • Identify opportunities for thought leadership and other marketing and campaign ideas to increase both internal and external brand awareness for the industry sector.
  • Lead drafting for appropriate directory and award submissions.
  • Support matter collection processes and the development of marketing content.
  • Prepares sophisticated, thoughtful and persuasive pitches and RFP responses. Be responsible for the development of and adherence to timelines, organizes administrative elements of the response process, and reviews substantive content for quality and consistency.
  • Develop tools and processes for attorneys that promote follow through with new contacts made at events, client meetings and or industry conferences to achieve positive outcomes.
  • Draft marketing communications-related activities, such as content creation, website updates and drafting of attorney biographies.
  • Develops tailored responses to various legal directory submissions including, but not limited to, Chambers USA, Legal 500, and Best Lawyers. Prepares lawyer interview prep books and responsible for scheduling interviews with legal directory researchers.
  • Supports client development plans by monitoring news-intelligence sources and conducting in-depth research and analysis of companies, industries, marketplaces and competitors; develops insights and communicates recommendations and applicable information to supervisors.
  • Contributes to the firm's high level of client service and helping to consistently improve its image internally and externally. Displays integrity, quality service and a "can-do" attitude to internal members of the firm as well as external clients and vendors via electronic and print correspondence, over the telephone and in-person.
  • Prepare an annual business plan and other reports relating to business development.
  • Complete special projects as assigned.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree, or higher, in Business Administration, Economics, Marketing or related field required.
  • A minimum of three (3) years of related subject matter experience and related analytical experience.
  • Excellent written, presentation and oral communication skills
  • Strong attention to detail and quality
  • Ability to work in a dynamic environment, prioritize multiple action steps simultaneously and meet strict and quickly evolving deadlines
  • Research skills and ability to turn data into a succinct and useful deliverable for lawyers
  • Ability to work independently
