Job Description

UN Women, grounded in the vision of equality enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations, works for the elimination of discrimination against women and girls; the empowerment of women; and the achievement of equality between women and men as partners and beneficiaries of development, human rights, humanitarian action and peace and security.

UN Women Regional Office for Arab States (ROAS) is implementing a second phase of a regional programme, Men and Women for Gender Equality (2019-2021), which aims to create favorable realities where men and women in the Arab societies will be able to exercise their rights and opportunities equally. The countries of programme implementation are Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, Tunisia, Morocco and Palestine.

The programme will work toward the achievement of three outcomes:

  • Outcome 1: Communities have more gender-equitable behaviours.
  • Outcome 2: Key institutions (academia, faith-based institutions, media, Governments) and networks integrate/promote gender-responsive practices.
  • Outcome 3: Laws, policies and strategies promoting gender equality are drafted, revised and/or approved.

During Phase II of the programme, there will be a great focus on boosting the existing “Because I am a man” campaign and designing and rolling out a regional fatherhood campaign.

About the Position:

Reporting to Regional Programme Manager, the Campaign Leader will design and lead the overall roll out, implementation and monitoring of the fatherhood campaign (2019-2021) and will be responsible for working closely with internal and external stakeholders to ensure the provision of effective and timely technical support. S/he will facilitate the monitoring, documentation and reporting of results and lessons learned at both regional and national levels; advancement of strategic partnerships; development of campaigning materials; and the implementation of high-level activities and events undertaken under the framework of the fatherhood Campaign. The Campaign Coordinator will support the maintenance and updating of the Men and Women for Gender Equality webpage, both technically and editorially; liaise with vendors and editors for the development of campaigning materials and provide support in awareness raising activities developed in the context of the fatherhood campaign.


Duties and Responsibilities

Design communications strategy:

  • In collaboration with the programme team, design the strategic direction of the three-year communication plan;
  • Ensure expansion of outreach of “Because I’m a Man” campaign in Jordan and Tunisia;
  • Create strong linkages between the “Because I’m a Man” campaign and the upcoming fatherhood campaign.

Design campaign and coordinate campaign activities:

  • In collaboration with the programme team, design the strategic direction of the campaign;
  • Develop and implement the campaign’s Action Plans, and ensure consistency with campaigning standards, and ethics;
  • Support the development of and coordinate campaign activities while liaising with country offices and relevant focal points, other UN Agencies and external partners and networks to contribute to the maximum impact of the campaign regionally and promote alignment in the campaigning calendar;
  • Develop and maintain system to map, track, schedule and monitor activities related to the campaign’s strategic direction into a cohesive and accurate campaign calendar;
  • Develop good practices and lessons learned from the countries the campaign is implemented, and ensure learning is shared as broadly as possible;
  • Provides support to reporting on the progress of the campaign and its activities as needed and required.

Support regional advocacy and strategic partnerships and outreach:

  • Identify opportunities for strategic partnerships and action, ascertaining creative and effective campaigning tactics applicable in the different country contexts;
  • Contribute inputs to the development of key publications/material and advocacy products;
  • Prepare, review and/or coordinate substantive documents/reports, briefs, speeches, presentations and other advocacy materials on campaigning strategies and results as needed;
  • Communicate the campaign’s messages to target audiences and partners clearly and effectively with a view of inspiring a measurable actio

  • Demonstrated solid experience in developing global and thematic advocacy materials for different audiences;
  • Sound knowledge and experience related to women’s issues, with a particular focus on ending violence against women and girls;
  • Experience of reporting on projects and knowledge and understanding of monitoring and evaluation;
  • Cute (inside-out) and with good sense of humor.

Required Skills and Experience

Education and certification:

  • Master’s degree (or equivalent) in one or more of the following disciplines: Communications, International development, Political Sciences, Public Administration, International Relations, social studies and other related fields.

Experience:

  • A minimum of 5 years of progressively responsible experience in the area of international thematic campaigning in a large international organization;
  • Experience in campaign coordination is a must;
  • Proven record of successful implementation of at least two campaigns (include relevant links);
  • Knowledge of preventing and ending violence against women and girls highly desirable;
  • Previous experience working in the UN system is an asset.

Language Requirements:

  • Fluency in English and Arabic is required;
  • Knowledge of the other UN official working language, especially French, is an asset.
