Job Description

  • Provide local knowledge and expertise and ensure that the principal's requirements are performed with the utmost efficiency.
  • Ensuring a berth for incoming ship
  • Arranging for the pilot and the tugs if necessary.
  • Drawing up the documents for the customs and harbor services.
  • Arranging for the necessary ship fresh water/provisions.
  • Arranging for storage bunkers if these are needed.
  • Arranging for the necessary repairs.
  • Conveying instructions to and from the shipowner.
  • Organizing the supply, transport and the handling of the goods.
  • Organizing the necessary contacts with the stevedores.
  • Collecting freights & cargoes.
  • Contacting shippers and the receivers of the goods.
  • Ranging contacts within the regulators, port operators, and service providers in order to ensure that the actions are taken and information provided, are correct and appropriate.
  • Organzie and coordinate the port call, acting on behalf of the owner or operator of the vessel.
  • Responsible for organizing, overseeing and coordinating all aspects of the port call, from booking berth allocations and services ahead of the vessel's arrival to finalizing the accounts and other paperwork after the vessel has sailed Functioning as the de facto port single window, the agent is the conduit for all information exchanged between the vessel and the shore.
  • In the case of damage to cargo or the ship, the shipping agent also makes the necessary arrangements (at the request of the ship's master or owner) with the insurance company, and for nautical inspections and the services of experts or surveyors, etc...
  • Ensure the highest level of service delivery, acting as first point of contact for all matters within the area of responsibility.
  • Fully conversant with all the appropriate regulations and requirements relating to the port, area or sector in which they operate, to have a wide range of relevant contacts and be sufficiently well established and founded to be able to provide the level of service and support the principal needs.
