Job Description

Main Purpose

  • Providing psychological support to patients according to MSF principles, standards and procedures in order to improve the patients’ mental health.

Accountabilities

  • Carrying out evaluation of mental health needs of patients and establishing a diagnosis and a plan of treatment. Informing the patient and his/her relatives about the possible consequences of the illness and the drug treatment to follow and referring patients to other health professionals whenever necessary, in order to provide the most appropriate treatment and improve the patient's condition
  • Implementing the Sexual Gender Based Violence (SGBV) protocol, identifying possible victims of SGBV and referring them to the medical team so that they receive the necessary treatment.
  • Providing psychological support and psychotherapy sessions (individual, family, group) to patients according to MSF protocols in order to improve their mental health conditions
  • Assisting and training staff members and resourceful people whenever necessary in order to enhance the scope of MH activities. Working in close collaboration with translators if needed in order to ensure appropriate terminology and behavior during sessions
  • Collecting statistical and monitoring data about mental health activities
  • Informing the supervisor and the medical team about any issues or problems that may arise related to patients’ treatment in order to provide the best possible solution from a medical perspective
  • Ensuring that all patient information is kept confidential.

MSF Section/Context Specific Accountabilities

  • The supporting partners’ project (outreach) requires flexibility as well as a certain mobility:

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Ensure psychological care is integrated in the partners’ primary health/ clinic.
  • Collaborate with the PMR for developing specific tools, organising trainings (FPA, MH etc) for a rapid and correct integration of SV&MH activities in the new sets up.
  • Participate in monitoring and evaluation meetings of activities in care for sexual violence survivors; participate in multidisciplinary “case discussion”meetings in colaboration with partner’s staff.
  • Offer psychological care according to MSF guidelines and values, quality and continuity of care to patients and guarantee confidentiality and correct handling of all documents related to the patient; register and complete the psychological file, respecting applicable rules regarding anonymity of the patient (see accountabilities)
  • Work in collaboration with colleagues (MSF& partners), respecting each other professional competence.
  • Inform the PMR about problems exceeding one’s competence, ask for support
  • Pay attention to his/her own mental health and refer any sign of early MH discomfort to the PMR in order to prevent burn out symptoms.
  • Flexibility to filling gap of Alexandria psychologist if needed for short time.
  • The above mentioned responsibilities are not exhaustive and other jobs can be asked according to the daily needs.

Job Requirements

Education

  • Essential degree or diploma in Psychology

Experience

  • Essential 2 years’ experience minimum as a Psychologist
  • Desirable previous experience with MSF or other NGO’s in developing countries
  • Experience in care to sexual violence victims desired, experience in management of psychological trauma in children is a plus

Languages

  • English and Arabic language are essential.
