Job Description

Introduction

  • This is a position for a full-time post providing Consultant general psychiatric services (adult and/or child) to the population of Jeddah.
  • The post is located in Jeddah, Saudi.
  • Our Mission is to promote the psychological and emotional well being of individuals and families in the community by providing accessible and innovative mental health care services for children, adolescents, adults, couples, and families.
  • The Center is built on respect, compassion, trust, quality of service and confidentiality.

Therapy Center is made up of the following teams:

  1. Adult Department
  2. 2. Child Department
  3. 3. Marriage & Family Counseling Therapy
  4. 4. Adult, Child, and Adolescent Psychiatry
  5. 5. Life Coaching

There are 3 different supervision groups which each has a team leader:

  1. Adult Supervision (which includes Marriage/Family Counseling and Adult Psychiatry),
  2. Child Supervision (which includes Child Psychiatry),
  3. Multidisciplinary Supervision (which includes life coaching, nutrition, and other disciplines).
  • The Center Team is supported by receptionist administrative team, as well as a team of interns.
  • The post will have appropriate office accommodation with e-mail and electronic shared diary facilities.
  • Consultant psychiatric services for children, adolescents and adults are provided by weekly visiting service and the team is made up of specialist clinical psychologists, and counselling psychologists, as well as psychotherapists in both adult and child departments, in addition to marriage and family therapists, psychiatrists, life coaches, and educational psychologists.
  • The center may not currently hospitalize patients and receives clients on the out-patient basis only.
  • Patients who require hospitalization are referred to nearby hospitals that offer such services in coordination with Center.
  • The mental health team operates in a collaborative culture, in keeping with modern roles for consultant psychiatrists.
  • There is a history of close multi-disciplinary and multi-agency working in Center, and the mental health team is a strong example of this, with a consultative and case supervisory model of working in which the consultant plays a lead role.
  • The team as a whole has been instrumental in developing the service to its present levels, and this post holder will be encouraged to continue this development, in the present context of regional network collaboration (building on the already close links with service providers and institutions).
  • Principal Duties - Consultant Psychiatrist
  • Provide clinical leadership to Center team and work collaboratively with practitioners and service providers.
  • To take a lead role in developing mental health services in Jeddah.
  • To provide clinical service in community psychiatry for adults, children, and adolescents, including; out-patient consultations, assessment and treatment of patients in the community and a range of care settings, emergency assessment and treatment.
  • Fulfil duties of an Approved Medical Practitioner per the laws and regulates of the Saudi Commission for Health Sciences.
  • The Post Holder must be an active participant in Clinical Governance and Clinical Risk Management, including their implementation and audit.
  • To contribute to the teaching and training of students, trainees and multidisciplinary staff groups as appropriate.

  • The Consultant Psychiatrist will be responsible for developing and maintaining clinical standards with the Center team.
  • They will provide professional leadership for the specialist practitioners. Relevant governance matters will be shared with our obligate network partners.
  • Performance Yearly appraisal will formally evaluate the performance of the role.
  • Regular discussions will take place for professional performance.
  • Research Although research is not included as a part of the proposed duties of this post the Board will provide active encouragement for the Post Holder to pursue any personal research interest as it would any area of appropriate professional development.
  • Leave The post-holder will be entitled to 3 weeks' annual leave per year in addition to ten public holidays.
