Job Description

Overview of Expectations

The teacher is responsible for providing an educational atmosphere where students have the opportunity to fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and spiritual and psychology growth.

Planning and Curriculum

DAIS uses the American Common Core Curriculum. This curriculum is dynamic and regularly changes as research advances instructional practice. This demands curriculum planning that is constantly reviewed and updated.

Classroom Instruction

DAIS believes classroom instruction begins with setting the stage for learning, followed by a clear explanation of what to do (telling), followed by modeling of the process (showing), followed by multiple opportunities for practice (guiding) until independence is attained. Classroom instruction moves systematically from extensive teacher input and little student responsibility initially — to total student responsibility and minimal teacher involvement at the conclusion of the learning cycle.

Student Assessment

DAIS views that student assessment is a major factor in the teaching learning process. Both formative and summative assessment are applied to:

  • Judge performance, measured against intended learning outcomes.
  • Determine whether progression to the next level is appropriate.
  • Provide useful feedback, which indicates attainment but also areas for improvement.

Identify what has not been understood, thus helping to inform the evaluation of teaching methods and approaches

Communication and Professional Relationships

Effective communication is central to addressing organizational success. Successful communication in the school workplace helps staff establish trusting, harmonious relationships. Stakeholders feel valued. This results in creating an effective school community that operates with integrity is highly productive and successfully fulfills their responsibilities.

Professional Development

DAIS believes that student success is depended on a learning culture that cultivates continuous improvement. This learning culture impacts on both students and staff. For staff members this demands mandatory ongoing professional development.

Classroom Environment / Operations / Routines

Routines within an organization provided the structures for collective action. These operational expectations define the boundaries of predictably in the learning environment. They are not intended to interfere with risk taking and creativity; rather they are the protocols that define a successful, respectful, safe workplace.
