Job Description
Role synopsis
- Proactively interact with other disciplines, Area teams, sub-functions and contractors to systematically resolve problems, applying informed engineering judgment to drive integrated, pragmatic solutions focused on risk management, production efficiency, defect elimination, & standardization
- Ensure Engineering activities appropriately apply BP standards and processes such as Fit for Service and CVP.
- Ensure quality and consistent application of engineering processes and work flows.
- Champion defect elimination and continuous improvement to support production forecast and grow IPC.
Key accountabilities
- Custodian and ownership of I&PS long term strategy for the Region ensuring alignment overall GOO strategy.
- Custodian and ownership of common I&PS engineering processes and workflows e.g. FSA, SIS Lifecycle, Safety Requirement Specifications
- Support and participate in Region I&PS Discipline LCoP meetings, sharing lessons learned and sub-discipline trends & issues with others
- Provide I&PS engineering support for Projects and TAR activities including input into design reviews, HAZOPs and PHSSERs
- Custodian of I&PS discipline related engineering tools e.g. SIL Verification thermowell stress calculations.
- Develop and Maintain regional standardized failure rate data tools to ensure consistency
- Continuously improve SIS, Instruments and F&G to improve process safety
- Provide I&PS review / verification to complex engineering work-packs
- Review I&PS MOC content
- Approve technical requirements of of I&PS engineering-focused contracts and approved equipment lists with major vendors
- Provide I&PS expertise to incident investigation
- Defining long term opportunities for I&PS improvement and risk reduction
- Central point for co-ordination of I&PS related processes.
- Drive closure of F4S gaps against the Control and Alarm barrier requirements
- Coach Challenge I&PS Engineers
- Ensure operating discipline on activities specific to the I&PS Engineering role to sustain safe, reliable and compliant operations
- Support conformance with BP and regulatory requirements
- Ensure the I&PS engineering information is up to date in the risk register including actions and due dates
- Ensure appropriate I&PS engineering codes, BP Practices and standards are adhered to when modifications are being made
- Work with R&M to manage instrumentation and safety system obsolescence coordinating and planning with discipline engineering team as appropriate
- Ensure I&PS Engineering risks are understood, controlled and continuously reduced, to deliver safe operating results
- Conduct self- verification on key operations and engineering processes and procedures as required e.g. Overrides, IP&S Engineering standards being followed etc.
- Ensure Engineering activities appropriately apply BP standards and processes such as Fit for Service and CVP.
- Ensure quality and consistent application of engineering processes and work flows.
- Champion defect elimination and continuous improvement to support production forecast and grow IPC.
- People – provides coaching to I&PS Engineering Challengers
- Contributes to and learns from others through the local and global I&PS Engineering CoP
