BBC Arabic is the largest BBC language service, providing news, current affairs and programmes on Radio, TV and Online to Arabic speaking audiences in the Middle East and across the world, 24 hours per day, seven days per week. The output is modern in style and outlook and adheres to BBC values of accuracy and impartiality. It has broad appeal, free from commercial, political and religious affiliations or pressures.
We are recruiting for a Senior Journalist with a digital background to join our team in Cairo. You will be leading on the Digital North Africa content.
This is a fixed term contract for 12 months on local terms and conditions.
Role Responsibility
Reporting to the Online Editor for BBC Arabic, you will play a key role in the digital editorial team. We expect you to contribute to our expanding engagement with the audience, coming up with strategies for reaching groups that are underserved. You will have editorial responsibility for the North Africa Digital output, including online and social media. Working closely with the other Arabic platforms, your role is to ensure that BBC Arabic Digital works together to meet the needs of our audiences.
Job Requirements
Are you the right candidate?
The successful candidate will be a fluent Arabic and English speaker and writer, with demonstrable experience in a senior journalistic role. You will have excellent knowledge of North Africa, Middle East and international current affairs. You will have sound experience of social media platforms and digital journalism, with the ability to demonstrate knowledge of digital markets, trends and technologies. You must be fully up to date with the latest relevant technological developments as they affect BBC Arabic’s services.
