Job Description

To be responsible for the planned and day-to-day maintenance of all University buildings/facilities plus the day-to-day operational management of the maintenance staff and external contractors.

To ensure that the planned and reactive maintenance of all buildings and installed plants across the University is in line with agreed standards and is competently delivered and administered. To lead, manage and coordinate the work of the general maintenance staff, ensuring a value for money service for the internal maintenance, operation, and repair of buildings, installed plant and estate.

To oversee the operation of the repairs database and tracking system ensuring that all jobs are progressed through to completion and to provide summary information on repairs as required.

To prepare and implement specifications for the installation and maintenance of building services installations.

To organize periodic inspections and testing of university infrastructure (including but not limited to) building plant, machinery, ladders, fire alarms, and water systems.
- To ensure that all risk and other assessments and procedures relevant to the area of operation are properly completed and recorded
Job Requirements
- Educated to a bachelor degree in electrical power engineering / Higher Diploma/Certificate in Building Services or equivalent professional experience
- Experience in managing a diverse maintenance team in a complex environment – to include performance, standards, work allocation, and staff development
- Able to demonstrate a practical skills base in building services
- Experience in carrying out risk assessments
- Experience of Plant Room maintenance and issues
- Experience and knowledge of repairs reporting systems and databases
- Problem-solving within maintenance and facilities
- Able to exercise initiative
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to work with minimum supervision
- Able to respond flexibly to the changing demands, routines, and procedures
- Commitment to continuous improvement and creative ways of working
- Effective written and verbal communications
- Available to work flexibly in order to meet the needs of the university
- Experience in energy reduction activities.
