Position Overview:

To ensure quality of incoming materials, intermediate and finished products by running cost effective inspection plan for testing / inspection plan, and developing the Laboratory management system to effectively respond to the variable business needs and technical queries in accordance to the operating and management systems (ISO17025 & Integrated QSE MS) requirements.

Function Specific Activities:

KEY DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Generally, the responsibilities of the laboratory manager are Planning, Organizing, staffing, and controlling the laboratory Resources and take the appropriate technical decisions in away that insure compliance with The Coca-Cola management systems and ISO 17025 requirements.
  • The laboratory manager is responsible for ensuring that all necessary resources of staff, equipment and finances are available for the efficient operation of the laboratory.
  • He/she is responsible for the management of the laboratory facilities, staff and the services offered and practical supervision of the general day to day operation.
  • He/she is specifically responsible for the organization of work priorities and schedules, supervision of tests and personnel undertaking tests.
  • Management of the various laboratory technical aspects relating to calibrations and test procedures, control of quality within the testing laboratories and is one of the signatories who approve test reports.
  • Review modifications and improvements in official procedures or methods of test, validations of new methods, and liaise with the laboratory and quality management for further approval, issuance and management system update.
  • Insure the proper accommodation and environmental conditions of testing and value-based purchasing of laboratory services and supplies, while keeping the records that verify compliance with the management system.
  • Ensuring training and training records for the laboratory stuff are up to date
  • To follow the Integrated Management System Policies and Procedures (ISO's 9001, 14001, ISO 22000, and OHSAS 18001)
  • Ensure the suitability of the workplace in terms of environmental and safety, and GLP requirements are followed
  • Responsible for other roles and responsibilities assigned by plant QSE manager
  • Abide by company's set of intentions and directions (policy) towards the Environment through an uninterrupted fulfilment of relevant instructions and / or precautions
  • Enable people career and development plans
  • Laboratory associates' performance evaluation and appraisal
  • Team compliance with Workplace Rights Policy - Annual leaves planning and OT usage
  • Sharing knowledge and best practices with others
  • Promote the culture of continuous improvement
  • Responsible for the execution of the laboratory capital projects.
  • As a food safety team member, responsibility in the food safety team is as listed in HCP-2, in addition to any specific task assigned during the FS meeting, as deemed appropriate

Job Requirements

ELATED JOB REQUIREMENTS/ QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience: 3 - 5 years in the field of testing laboratories (preferably food/chemical/pharmaceutical industries)

Acquired Skills

  • Basic Knowledge of food industry
  • Well understanding of recognized quality systems (ISO 17025, ISO 14001, Total quality management… etc.)
  • Well understanding of GLP
  • Understanding of equipment performance and troubleshooting
  • Background in statistical control techniques and conducting SPC
  • Background in Microbiology
  • Basic Knowledge of Sensory Evaluation

Soft Skills

  • Communication skills (listening, speaking, report writing)
  • Leadership skills

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • B.Sc. in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Microbiology, Biotechnology or Pharmacy from a reputable education institution is a minimum requirement for this job

CULTURAL DIVERSITY:

  • Arabic is the mother tongue and the Egyptian accent is the local language
  • Excellent written, spoken and English is a must

J. ANALYSIS:

  • Describe the types of problems you must solve to successfully perform your job. Is the process well defined, or must you develop new approaches to solve these problems?
  • Time management is necessary with laboratory staff to professionally coordinate and respond to urgent requests and sticking to the inspection duration plan of SAP in a timely accurate manner
  • Applying problem solving and corrective and preventive action tools is a must to face different issues such as the laboratory technical issues, production issues, problems related to laboratory staff, and any other daily problems.
  • Prompt response to any problem related to the instruments in the laboratory (e.g. out of calibration, malfunctioning, breakage… etc.) and follow up with the key stakeholders
  • Prompt response to any out of specs results
  • Take immediate actions if needed for issues affecting the smoothness of the supply chain and follow up on them due to urgent requests requested by other departments as in customer service

JUDGEMENT AND DECISION MAKING:

  • To decide on the material usage of all incoming materials, intermediate and finished products, and packaging materials. While in some instances when facing an out of specification results he/she will provide technical interpretations for further decision by the PQA and QSE managers
  • To decide on the validity of the measuring equipments based on its performance, SPC and relevant control charts.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Inside Laboratory

  • Chemicals (facing and handling different types of chemicals toxic, corrosive, flammable, harmful… etc.)
  • Instruments (verities of laboratory equipment with different applications UV instruments, thermal instruments, sonicators, microwave, thermometers… etc.)
  • Fumes and vapors resulting from different tests, chemicals
  • Microbiological items and their consumables as any sharp ended bodies, syringes and medias
  • Different raw materials and products with different hazards
