Job Description

Details of Position

The British Council teaching centres in Egypt are looking to recruit a full time YL Programme Manager, to work in City Stars.

The centre continues to expand in both General English (Adults and YLs) and Corporate Services. The latter taking place both inside the capital and locations beyond.

Egypt plays a major role in the British Council’s ELT work across the whole Arabic-speaking region. The teaching centre is one of the oldest and biggest in the network. Demand for English is strong and classrooms are generally full. It is a busy operation working alongside the exams, programmes and projects departments. The British Council Egypt is also a regional training centre and there are excellent opportunities for further development in various directions. The centres run CELTA, distance Delta, TYLEC and various management and general training courses. Sponsorship is available on most courses for suitable candidates. For more experienced teachers there is a supported environment to start into teacher training, including becoming a Delta local tutor and a TYLEC tutor, as well as higher teacher opportunities.

You will be an enthusiastic and motivated TEFL-Q qualified teacher with at least 2 years teaching experience who is looking for an interesting place to live, work and develop.

Egypt has gone through many changes since the revolution of January 2011. Initial optimism has given way to widespread frustration about the pace of progress. However, it remains a relatively stable country in the region, especially in the major metropolitan areas. Minor demonstrations do take place, although they are generally localised and do not impact on the lives of expatriates. Ongoing inflation and the devaluation of the Egyptian pound in November 2016 have had a serious impact on the economy, driving up the price of goods and services. This is now starting to settle down as new market equilibrium is established and Egyptians hope they are entering a period of greater stability and reform.

Egypt currently has travel restrictions in Sinai due to deterioration in security in this area.

UK travel advice is regularly updated and can be found on the FCO website here: http://www.fco.gov.uk/en/travel-and-living-abroad/travel-advice-by-country/middle-east-north-africa/egypt

Internal candidates please remember to include the full version of your most recent end-of-year-record of performance/evaluation and confirm when the system prompts you that you have discussed the application with both your line and centre manager. This post is open to internal candidates based in Egypt.

The closing date for applications is 11 October 2018. Please visit our website https://jobs.britishcouncil.org and apply for the post. Please do not send applications through Email.
