Job Description
- Reporting to the Editor-in-Chief, the Senior Copy Editor helps in defining strategic positioning as well as specific direction and tone for the website.
- Keeps an eye on viral and trending topics to uncover newsworthy stories.
- Writes content with readers and audience in mind, and conducts interviews when needed.
- Proofreads all content created by staff writers to ensure editorial accuracy, consistency, brand and contractual compliance of communications content. This position requires a thorough knowledge of and expertise in applying brand voice to communications. Also establishes editorial standards and oversees copywriting and editorial workflow.
- Ensures website is updated and functioning properly.
- Ensures the consistency of company glossary and style guides and trains staff in these editorial standards. Serves as an inter-departmental liaison on editorial functions and standards.
Job Requirements
- BA in Mass Communication, English Literature, Journalism, or similar is required
- 4 years of experience in a editing, copy editing, and journalism environment is required.
- Superb English language, written and spoken.
- Must have excellent editorial skills; proofreading skills; ability to judge and correct design layouts; excellent communication skills.
- Ability to work in a high-volume workplace and interact with a wide variety of people.
- Superior attention to detail and accuracy.
- Experience in Digital Publishing and working with Content Management Systems.
- Knowledge of Social Media trends and formats needed for each platform.
- Ability to absorb and consistently apply style guides and brand voice guidelines.
- Experience checking translated documents for consistency.
- Experience using proprietary style guides and Associated Press Manual of Style.
