Job Description

Reports to: Technical Operations Manager

Purpose: The job holder’s responsibilities will include technically administering the software operations of the department, including but not limited to, recommendation, configuration, installation, licensing, purchasing, and proactive monitoring of systems software, as well as relevant labs setups and experimentation. The engineer will also act as a first line software support for the department.

Principal Accountabilities:

  • Administering the software operations of the Computer Science and Engineering department (CSE), including but not limited to, recommendations, configuration, installation, licensing, purchasing and proactive monitoring of systems software, as well as relevant lab software’s and experimentation
  • Act as a first line software support for the Computer Science and Engineering department
  • Test, evaluate, install, and troubleshoot all department needed software
  • Train lab supervisors on installing and maintaining different operating systems and software’s in the department labs
  • Supervise, coordinate and assign tasks for lab supervisors and technicians
  • Monitor and support the installation and daily operations of CSE Labs (i.e. Operating systems and others software’s for all different computers )
  • Install, configure and maintain of CSE Servers of the department
  • Maintain the department’s network infra-structure and IP schema in cooperation with the university's infra- structure team (UTI)
  • Provide recommendation for hardware upgrades when needed to performance improvement
  • Administrate of CSE OU in active directory
  • Troubleshoot all CSE network problems
  • Troubleshoot and solving CSE servers’ software problems
  • Maintain the department data security systems including servers and computers antivirus, user access level permissions for department electronic data according to his/her role in the department
  • Prepare annual plans for department systems with cooperation with technical operation manager
  • Provide technical calibration in procurement of software to the department
  • Implement and maintain printing management system in CSE Labs
  • Establish and maintain of CSE Software Library
  • Assist faculty members and CSE students in their research activities and senior projects
  • Share in graduation projects presentation
  • Install site agreement software licenses on students and faculty laptops
  • Other related duties as assigned by the technical operations manager

Job Requirements

Requirements:
Minimum education requirement: B.Sc. Computer Science or Computer Engineering or relevant certification

Experience: Minimum of 7 years of experience in related field

Skills:

  • Network and systems administration: Extensive experience in network management, disaster prevention and trouble-shooting. LAN/WAN technologies using the professional credential of: Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer MCSE, Microsoft Certified Messaging Engineer and MCSA Messaging on Windows Server
  • Apple Products, Linux Products: installation, configuration and administration
  • Cisco products installation and configuration
  • Support for Microsoft operating systems and applications, Windows 2012, Windows 2008 and Windows 2003 domains, and S Exchange Servers implementation and administration, and ISA 2004
  • PCs hardware and software trouble-shooting (i.e. desktops and laptops)
  • Ability to work under pressure and deliver efficient results, persistent in solving problems, takes initiative and adaptable, clear communication skills, as well as leadership skills in team work environment
  • Excellent written and oral English
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Working ability to understand, analyze, evaluate, and install different software of servers, workstations, and equipment
  • Configure, maintain and troubleshooting of network printers and scanners
  • Excellent knowledge networking and computer software
  • Programming knowledge
  • Ability to work as part of a team
  • Ability to work well with other campus service departments
