Job Description
- Diagnose and provide non-surgical treatment of diseases and injuries of internal organ systems. Provide care mainly for adults who have a wide range of problems associated with the internal organs.
- Success in this field requires a blend of technical skills and positive personal attributes. An internist must be skilled in conducting physical examinations, taking patient medical histories and interpreting the results of diagnostic tests. Internists also coordinate patient care with psychiatrists, obstetricians and other specialists. Like all physicians, internists must be skilled at solving problems, communicating with others and making decisions quickly. Compassion, respect and integrity are just some of the personal attributes required for success as an internist.
