Job Description

The Molding Manager reports directly to the Company GM.

Works alongside with all team to communicate with departmental workers to form a strong, effective team.

Understands and communicates company mission, vision, budgets, goals, objectives, policies and procedures. Responsible for groups in various work areas, and must be able to improve and develop people, processes, equipment, material and the work environment.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Daily operations for the Production departments of Injection Molding.
  • Collect and analyze production and processing data to drive continuous improvements.
  • Continuously strive to develop methodologies and equipment improvements to enhance department efficiencies
  • Management of Capital Improvement Projects related to the injection molding.
  • Assist in the training and development of Engineers / machine techs /operators etc.
  • Assist as needed in major process troubleshooting beyond the level of the technician staff.
  • Collect and analyze data to improve efficiencies/procedures.
  • Performance reviews for staff & machinery.
  • Set personal developmental objectives for staff and self.

Responsibilities also include:
People:

  • Will be responsible for supervisor reviews, and scrap accountability.
  • Accountable for maintaining accurate shop-floor data/information.
  • Will work with production planning as needed to schedule smooth production according to due dates and manpower to achieve efficient workflows.
  • Will provide clear concise communications to guide supervisors in achieving daily and long-term goals.
  • Will participate in meetings and other plant improvement functions such as FOE, FMEA, etc.
  • Shows constant concern and action to ensure a safe work area.
  • Approves overtime, when needed, to the department supervisors and team members.
  • The true relationship-builder within shifts constantly strengthening employee morale (daily)- seeks to understand people’s needs while getting the optimum throughput out of the staff and equipment.

Process:

  • Ensures that quality procedures and all applicable work instructions are followed by all personnel.
  • Keeps schedules updated and informs workers of any upcoming changes.
  • Plans and schedules for efficient product flow.
  • Assists in troubleshooting equipment problems, etc., when needed
  • Stresses and practices safety procedures at all times-leads by example.
  • Publish mold schedules on a weekly basis to keep the organization informed on when the tools will be available.
  • Establish and publish KPI’s for each mold shop on a monthly basis to identify best practices and measure benefits.

Equipment:

  • Understands capabilities of all equipment and utilizes each piece to reduce labor costs, creating efficient workflow.
  • Understands the importance of PM/maintenance. Schedules people and equipment availability to perform these tasks.
  • Monitors downtime of equipment through documentation and is proactive in keeping equipment in good running condition.
  • Understands equipment and sees that all parts/accessories/auxiliaries are on machine and used properly.
  • Knows how to get maximum capacity (ex. cycle times) from each piece of equipment. Sees that people are trained accordingly to achieve this goal.
  • Ensures that all guarding for equipment is in place while equipment is in operation.
  • Creates a neat/organized work area.

Materials:

  • Ensures that materials allocated are of appropriate quality, available for use, and timely to meet the needs of supervisors and team member requirements.
  • Holds supervisors and team members accountable for scrap, efficiency and job performance.

Environment:

  • Constantly focuses on achieving an ideal work area that is clean and safe.
  • Personal protective equipment is used at all times and that all required assessments

Job Requirements

  • Plastics/Polymer Engineering Technologies Degree or equivalent technical degree required and 10 years’ hands on experience in injection molding.
  • Experience working with a large staff under pressure, high volume plastic injection molding environment
  • Must be able to travel domestically and internationally as required
  • Must be willing and able to take an active role in plant wide safety activities
  • Familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures relating to mold fabrication and maintenance. Experience in FRP mold making or manufacturing is a key asset for this position.
  • Excellent communication (verbal and written), problem solving and interpersonal skills enabling efficient interactions and building an internal network to drive results.
  • Strong leadership skills structured and organized.
  • Education and/or specialization: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering with a minimum of 3 years’ experience.
  • Solid computer skills. Working knowledge of electronic spreadsheet applications and word processing programs.
  • Report writing, and presentation abilities.
  • Knowledgeable concerning mechanical principles, production machinery, manufacturing flow and processes.
  • Strong analytical abilities and a solid understanding of accounting principles as they relate to budgets and profitability & Ls.
  • Indirect supervision of 5 people
  • This is key position with high visibility and potential of growth in a highly skilled engineering team working across North America.
