Duties:
Written Curriculum:
- Creates and plans trans-disciplinary units of inquiry from which lessons are taught and supports this with written planning.
- Develops and teaches a course of study according to the school’s grade-level scope and sequence.
- Plans lessons that assist primarily English as an Additional Language (EAL) students.
- Tailors lessons for several levels of academic ability within the same classroom, bearing in mind different learning styles and prior experiences.
- Incorporates the Essential Elements of the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Program (IB – PYP) into inquiry-based, constructivist learning experiences within the classroom.
- Collaborates with other teachers in planning on a regular basis.
Taught Curriculum:
- Presents lessons by way of differentiated instruction methods (including ICT) that support primarily ESL students.
- Examines, re-examines and reflects upon teaching practices in order to provide the best possible opportunities to explore the trans-disciplinary units of inquiry across the curriculum and beyond.
- Provides a stimulating learning atmosphere within the classroom.
- Models for students the character attributes of the IB Learner Profile.
- Uses excellent written and oral English skills when communicating.
- Observes the classroom expectations handbook, involving care and within maintenance of the classroom.
Assessed curriculum:
- Monitors, assists, corrects and assesses student results by preparing assessments according to IB assessment strategies and tools.
- Observes the Essential Agreements on assessment created by teachers and set within the Assessment, Recording and Reporting Handbook.
- Maintains student portfolios and assessment records according to assessment guidelines and under the time constraints required.
Professional Duties:
- Maintains order in the classroom and provides a safe, secure and healthy educational environment by establishing, following and enforcing standards and procedures, complying with all legal regulations.
- Informs parents by maintaining records of academic performance, attendance and social acclimation, reporting on all elements of student development at parent-teacher meetings, both regularly scheduled and as-needed.
- Complies with set IEP guidelines and contributes professional feedback at all IEP meetings.
- Maintains strict confidentiality in regard to students and their records.
- Provides student support services by monitoring play areas, restrooms and dining hall facilities, maintaining after-school club(s) if requested and leading students on field trips.
- Attends scheduled staff/committee meetings.
- Contributes professional expertise in the development and writing of collaborative school policies and procedures.
- Completes all required annual IB professional development workshops/classes/ seminars.
- Provides for the safety of school-bought resources.
- Represents the school within the broader community with professional conduct that supports the mission of the school.
- Enhances the school’s reputation by accepting requests and exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishment.
Job Requirements
- 3+ Years’ Experience as Class/Subject Teacher.
- Masters Degree in Education ia a+
- IB experience is preferable.
- IB Certificate: Making the PYP Happen.
- Manageable Unit planning.
