Job Description

Job Summary:

  • The role of the Business Intelligence Analyst is to help inform decision-making and solve business problems by converting data into information, selecting relevant data from data warehouses, manipulating large data sets, building decision models and facilitating insightful solutions to complex problems and looking at competitor data and industry trends to help develop a picture of where the company stands in the industry, where they can improve and where they can reduce costs.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Interacts with customers to understand business and data requirements, and iteratively designs report prototypes for customer feedback.
  • Responsible for the design and creation of data structures to produce reports to make data actionable and facilitate decision making for clients.
  • Works with team to identify best means to display data e.g., dashboard, chart, report, tabular, filters, selection options and subsequently build.
  • Applies design and data analysis techniques to organize the presentation of data in impactful ways in order to make it easier to understand, insightful, and actionable by end users.
  • Ensure that the design and operation of the BI solutions are appropriate to meet the information and decision support requirements of the business.
  • Works with functional internal teams to provide subject matter expertise throughout the production implementation of report driven requirements.
  • Improves systems by studying current practices; designing modifications.
  • Lead and/or assist in the design, architecture, and implementation of data sources to include data warehouse, traditional relational databases, and unstructured content utilizing installed Business Intelligence suite.
  • Manage and/or coordinate 3rd party resources in the development of reporting and data warehouse solutions.
  • Defines project requirements by identifying project milestones, phases, and elements; forming project team; establishing project budget.
  • Monitors project progress by tracking activity; resolving problems; publishing progress reports; recommending actions.
  • Maintains user confidence and protects operations by keeping information confidential.
  • Prepares technical reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends.
  • Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; benchmarking state-of-the-art practices; participating in professional societies.
  • Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
  • Performs feasibility analysis, scopes projects, and works with the project management team to prioritizes deliverables, and negotiate on product functionalities.
  • Creates detailed Business Requirement Document (BRD) and translate it into functional specifications.
  • Partners with development and analytic teams to provide reporting on software solutions.
  • Participates in Integration Testing and User Acceptance Testing (UAT) and Functionality Testing.

Job Requirements

  • 3+ years of designing, developing, and implementing Business intelligence solutions.
  • BS/MS degree in Computer Science, Engineering or a related subject.
  • Excellent Analytical skills.
  • Technical Background preferable in (.NET).
  • Hand on experience and skills working with reporting suites such as Birst, Tableau, Business Objects, Cognos, Pentaho.
  • Experience working with multi-dimensional data sets/databases i.e. Oracle, DB2 and SQL Server.
  • Exposure to Data Warehouse platforms i.e. SAP.
  • Experience in Data modelling and data warehousing.
  • Experience with project management and development life cycle methodology.
  • Understanding of SDLC processes - Waterfall, Agile... Etc.
  • Ability to translate complex business requirements into technical specifications.
  • Experience in writing software process related documents SRS, user manuals, etc.
  • Strong stakeholder management ability, including capacity to communicate with senior executives.
  • Ability to work on a team, as well as independently.
  • Ability to pro-actively research solutions and best practices.
  • Ability to debug and problem solve.
  • Good level of communication – verbal and written.
