PROJECT DESCRIPTION

  • USAID’s Strengthening Entrepreneurship and Enterprise Development (SEED) in Egypt project is part of the United States – Government of Egypt Trade and Investment Promotion in Egypt (TIPE) Bilateral Agreement. This Agreement focuses on strengthening the development of micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) and entrepreneurship. More specifically, the SEED Project’s purpose is to increase employment and income of MSMEs and entrepreneurs, especially those owned by women and youth in disadvantaged areas, by:
  • Stimulating entrepreneurship and innovation;
  • Enhancing formalization of private enterprises
  • Improving financial and non-financial services to MSMEs
  • Integrating MSMEs and entrepreneurs in progressive value chains; and
  • Addressing enabling environment policy reform initiatives to facilitate MSME development that is aligned to the Government of Egypt’s (GOE) socio-economic strategy.
  • SEED provides technical assistance, capacity building, and training to relevant stakeholders and counterparts in order to support the growth of MSMEs and promote entrepreneurship in Egypt. Stakeholders and counterparts include public sector reform champions, universities, BDS providers, mentors, business associations, investors, financial institutions, public organizations, MSMEs, and entrepreneurs. SEED will collaborate with other development partners (donors) and other USAID contractors to take full advantage of synergistic opportunities in achieving results. Special focus will be given to disadvantaged areas and population groups such as women and youth. Youth is defined for the purpose of this activity as individuals who are between ages of 15 and 29 years old.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • The purpose of this position is to provide technical assistance to SEED project for increasing access to finance and financial literacy among MSMEs and to create a relationship between MSMEs and non-banking financial providers.

TASKS

  • Use various approaches to increase access to finance for entrepreneurs and MSMEs;
  • Support nonbank financial institutions “ NGOs/MFIs and MF, Factoring, Leasing, Private Equity, Venture Capital companies” to develop new financial products and/or improve existing products to meet the financial needs of entrepreneurs and MSMEs;
  • Create relationships between MSMEs and non-banking financial providers through organizing financial linkage forums;
  • Support EFSA in promoting nonbanking financial tools such as leasing, factoring, private equity, angel investment and venture capital;
  • Support private and/or public institutions, including microfinance MFIs to increase their outreach to their targeted segments;
  • Use a comprehensive approach to the improvement of financial literacy that includes:
  • Helping financial institutions/MFIs incorporate financial literacy modules into their application processes;
  • Supporting Financial Services Institute (FSI) in adding simplified financial literacy modules to its MSME portal Supporting EFSA in implementing financial literacy programs
  • Support EFSA in developing a database for the nonbanking institutions and their financial products adding a financial products database to its platform. The database must include information on the application process and requirements;
  • Develop mechanisms for innovation and use of technology;
  • Build and maintain relationships with partners to maximize the outcomes of the project activities to support the growth of entrepreneurs and MSMEs
  • Develop scoop of works to hire consultants to meet the needs of the project partners
  • Perform other duties as required by Component B Team Lead.

Job Requirements

  • University Degree in a relevant field.
  • 7 years of relevant experience in a nonbank financial institution, USAID project experience is preferred.
  • Solid knowledge and demonstrated experience working with the nonbank financial tools.
  • An understanding of entrepreneurship and MSME development in Egypt, including the key stakeholders and practitioners in the ecosystem.
  • Demonstrated experience in analyzing market needs, identifying constraints and designing interventions to address root causes.
  • Possess exceptional communication and presentation skills.
  • Fluency in both Arabic and English (written and spoken).
  • Possess strong team-work.
  • Proficient in computer applications (Excel, Word, and PowerPoint).
  • Willingness to travel to various governorates within Egypt.
