Job Description

01. The Positions Offered

TSA is currently seeking Junior Quantity Surveyors to join us. Successful candidates will receive comprehensive training at levels 2, 3, and 4, with the opportunity to progress to level 6 (check note 5).

02. The Work of a Measurement Specialist/Junior Quantity Surveyor

At TSA, we create measurement schedules (bills of quantities) from DWG, PDF, and BIM documents. As a Measurement Specialist, you will be trained to:

  • Understand architectural designs, plans, and specifications, for major projects, all produced to UK standards.
  • Identify and document any errors or omissions in the source materials.
  • Use Bluebeam and similar specialist measurement software to measure works. This includes finding, selecting, sorting, ordering, naming, and labelling measurements.
  • Perform calculations and organise quantities to an international standard (NRM/SMM7).
  • Develop bills of quantities based on standardised descriptions from our library.

TSA has structured processes for each part of this workflow, overseen by expert divisional leaders. Both instructors and a dedicated trainer will provide ongoing support, feedback, and mentorship, especially in the early stages.

03. The Training that TSA Provides

Trevor Sadd Associates Ltd offers tailored online training, which is fully funded and includes modular assessments to ensure that trainees reach the required skill level. TSA’s program is designed to accommodate individuals from diverse professional backgrounds, including recent graduates and professionals from architecture, engineering, and planning.

Highlights of TSA’s Training Program:

  • Training is provided at no cost, and TSA compensates you for all training time completed, regardless of the outcome.
  • The training modules build sequentially, allowing progression only after demonstrating proficiency in the previous module.
  • Further training details (modules, levels, methods) are available to those selected for an interview.

04. Benefits to Successful Applicants

  • Exciting Projects: Work on a variety of high-profile projects designed by leading industry professionals.
  • Consistent Work: Up to 50 hours per week with flexible working hours.
  • Remote Work Flexibility: Ability to work from your chosen location with regular monthly payments within 72 hours of invoice.
  • Paid Training and Mentorship: In-depth, paid training that builds your expertise in advanced measurement techniques.
  • Career Growth: Opportunities to develop essential skills in communication, technical critique, and project management within a UK consultancy environment.

05. Grades and Rates

TSA provides training and work across levels 1 to 6. Rates correspond to the skill level achieved:

  • Grade 1 (Intern): $0.00 - $5.00 (University Internships)
  • Grade 2 (Basic Take-Off): $3.00 - $5.00 (Working Under Instruction)

  • Grade 6 (Management, Business Development): $8.00 - $10.50

TSA pays trainees for training on an hourly basis at the rate aligned with their current grade. Training is provided as a service to all new hires.

Advice to Applicants

TSA is looking to recruit from a wide range of candidates who will have different skills and experience. The online application on Wuzzuf assists us in both profiling candidates and determining suitability. We do not expect everyone to be good at everything.

1 ) If you do not have good English skills (or the will to learn) we will not be able to train you effectively and you should not apply.

2) You should try to be accurate when answering questions and it should be remembered that:

  • We will consider candidates who are still studying but do not have experience.
  • TSA is looking for candidates who exhibit a high measure of consistency between what they say and do. If you tell us you are an expert, then that is the basis on which we evaluate you. If you do not have much experience it is much better to say that.
  • Part of our evaluation process is one of verifying that we can rely on what candidates tell us.

3) You should complete the application as soon as it is practical. We evaluate on a rolling program and positions are filled as soon as suitable candidates are identified.

4) Whilst TSA is currently looking to promote positions to women (to improve the gender balance within TSA). TSA are equal opportunity employers at all levels of the business and the decisions as to who we work with and the rates we pay are solely based on merit.

Job Requirements

06. Basic Skills and Abilities Required

Essential Skills:

  • Strong interest in producing high-standard work.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • High proficiency in spoken and written English.
  • Effective communication skills, with the ability to work seamlessly with colleagues from different cultural backgrounds.
  • Proactive approach to problem-solving and self-management.

Skills for Higher Grades:

  • Logical, methodical work style.
  • Highly numerate, with an eye for accurate calculations.

  • Strong motivation to learn and refine new skills.

  • Experience with Google Docs, Word, and spreadsheets.

07. Additional Skills That Add Value

08. Setting Up as an Online Specialist

09. Outsourcing is not the Right Kind of Work for Everyone

Working online is not for everyone. We are probably not for you if you:

  • Always wanted to be great, or even good, at some specific role (i.e. some people have a desire to be a great architect, engineer, project planner, manager, etc.)
  • Prefer to work in a busy open-plan office
  • Like working on practical stuff (i.e. like to see stuff getting made or built)
  • Like the security of being managed, fixed hours, wages paid net, etc,
  • Do not want to commit to setting up an environment and systems that would allow you to work online in an effective way
  • Do not want to converse and think in English (whilst at work)

10. Processing Your Application

Our application process is now managed through Wuzzuf. Please make sure both your CV and Wuzzuf profile are up-to-date. To ensure smooth processing, your CV (in Word or PDF format) should be set to allow copying so it can be tracked by our ATS. Most of the required information can be completed by attaching your CV or other relevant documents directly on Wuzzuf.
