Job Description

Entomologist Job Description (Operational)

To manage and support service providers in the residential areas to fulfill the below tasks efficiently:

  • Inspect commercial and residential buildings and the surrounding property to identify the type and source of infestation, determine how much damage has been done and secure access to the infested locations.
  • Measure the dimensions of the infested area to calculate the requirements for fumigants and provide the client with an exceptional level of service.
  • Develop treatment plans and prevention methods to remove pest problems for clients and reduce the risk of re-infestation
  • Provide clients with safety warnings and other directions regarding leaving the premises or covering sensitive furnishing and other items during the treatment process
  • Treat rooms, furnishings, wood, clothing, ditches and surrounding grasslands and trees by spraying powders, gasses or other chemical solutions on affected areas
  • Direct and assist co-workers during the extermination process to remove or eliminate insects, rodents or weeds
  • Remove dead insects, rodents and weeds, and ensure the premises are free of all treatment chemicals and equipment before leaving the job site

 

Entomologist Job Description (Technical)

  • Studies the characteristics of insects, including interactions with other species and their environment, reproduction, population dynamics, diseases, and movement patterns.
  • Studies insect distribution and habitat and recommends methods to prevent importation and spread of injurious species.
  • Studies behavior, nutrition, reproduction, disease transmission, or pest management issues related to their specific species of interest.
  • Studies insects for further knowledge about insect behavior, population, interaction, and classification.
  • Studies insects and their relation to plant and animal life: Identifies and classifies species of insects and allied forms, such as mites and spiders.
  • Aids in control and elimination of agricultural, structural, and forest pests by developing new and improved pesticides and cultural and biological methods, including use of natural enemies of pests.
  • Creates taxonomic insect guides.
  • Researches and assesses insect-related disease and infestation risks.
  • Performs field tests and site evaluation to identify insect's environmental impact and repercussions.
  • Develops and conducts experimental studies with insects in controlled or natural surroundings.
  • Develops methods of pest control via learning more about insects, which can be useful for farmers, as well as the human population in general.
  • Controls or eliminates pests in infested areas without destroying other forms of life. Instead of using deadly poisons, to developing ways to trap insects or to sterilize them so that they cannot reproduce.
  • Experimenting with ways to use birds or harmless insects to control the population of destructive insects.
  • Captures insects and observe them in their natural habitats.
  • Exposes to uncomfortable environments and harsh weather conditions.
  • Able to do a combination of fieldwork, testing, and research.
  • Makes contributions to knowledge about human allergies and ailments acquired from certain insects.

Job Requirements

Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s degree, M.S. or Ph.D in entomology or a related field in the biological sciences.
  • 3-5 years of progressive experience in a well-known Pest Control Company
  • Ability to work comfortably in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent command of English and Arabic Languages is a must.

Entomologist Skills & Competencies

  • Comfort with insects: Shouldn't be squeamish around insects and must be willing to handle them and their byproducts.
  • Observation skills: The field often requires observing and noting details about insects' behavior, appearance, and environment.
  • Communication skills: To be able to explain their findings in writing and verbally to academics, students, policymakers, and other stakeholders.
  • Critical thinking skills: To be able to draw conclusions from data collected from research, observation, and experiments.
