Job Description

PROJECT BACKGROUND:

Feed the Future Egypt Rural Agribusiness Strengthening Project (“the Project”) is a five-year USAID-funded activity, supported by the U.S. government’s Feed the Future initiative. The Project aims to improve the competitiveness of Egypt’s horticulture producers and related down-stream businesses and food processors. The Project promotes a more competitive and inclusive Egyptian economy through growth in selected horticultural sectors with special focus on securing employment and increasing agriculture-related incomes of smallholder farmers. The Project operates in Greater Cairo, Upper Egypt, and the Nile Delta, through three strategic regional offices in Luxor, Minya and Gharbia, in addition to the main office in Giza.

ASSIGNMENT BACKGROUND

The Training Consultancy for Project value chains is critical to the overall success of the Project. The Project value chains include tomatoes, green beans, onions and potatoes. The consultant will work alongside key Project staff, including the Production Post-Harvest (PPH) Lead, Post-Harvest Lead, and field coordinators, to implement a training curriculum that will address critical weaknesses amongst smallholder farmers, laborers, producer organizations (PO’s), University graduates, agricultural technical school (ATS) students and graduates, service providers and logistics companies. The consultant will be required to make several trips to the field in different governorates. 

ASSIGNMENT DURATION: Maximum 115 days for 2022

PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Curriculum development

  • Attend Training of Trainers (ToT) technical curriculum structure and training strategies so the Project has the same message delivered to farmers and other sectors.

Farmers’ capacity building

  • Discuss technical training needs of the Project’s farmers and training staff 
  • Provide training to the Project’s farmers and beneficiaries in each governorate to ensure that they are capable of effectively implementing the Project interventions 

Farmers Follow up Visits

  • Assess implementation of training recommendations
  • Identify and resolve any field issue as requested
  • Supervise and assess the technical assistants’ performance 

DELIVERABLES:

  • Written report on results of training implementation
  • Field assessment reports of farmers technical progress
  • Technical recommendations responding to farmers queries
  • Identification of production challenges and practical solutions

Job Requirements

  • 3-5 Experience implementing field training.
  • Advanced relevant degree
  • Expertise related to integrated management practices.
  • Previous work experience in development projects with small farmers is preferable.
  • Experience training university/ATS students and graduates is preferable
