Job Description:

This internship will help to inform and direct Law Today’s online presence, particularly on our website and through social media, and keep us aware of local and regional news. This entails:

  • Research: Continuous research on relevant online portals for news that is interesting and relevant to our target audience.
  • Collection of such research in a data bank and organization (in collaboration with other team members) to determine how it will be used (rewritten, shared, used as source material for an independent story, etc.).
  • Extensive research on particular topics as background research for feature pieces written by the Law Today team or external contributors.
  • Website/Social Media: Organization of content for Law Today’s website and social media (Facebook, LinkedIn, Instagram) and some content creation and management, in collaboration with the CEO & Managing Editor.
  • Responding to inquiries on social media and the website, and directing questions to other team members where appropriate.
  • Creating content for the Law Today newsletter (research and writing).
  • Although this internship is primarily focused on research and social media engagement, there will also be opportunities to become involved in the following, depending on skills and interest level.
  • Writing/Content Creation: There will be the opportunity to write short news and feature pieces for the Law Today newsletter and website.
  • All written content will be subject to editing and approval by the Law Today CEO and Managing Editor before being shared.
  • The intern will have the opportunity to find creative ways of showcasing information through Law Today’s online platforms (creating infographs, short videos, podcasts, etc.) in collaboration with the Law Today team.
  • There will be the opportunity to participate in interviews with participants (leading lawyers and business people), with Law Today’s CEO & Managing Editor.
  • Events: Contribute to organization of Law Today events and workshops, attend and document events (posting updates on social media/live tweeting, etc.).
  • Attend other events relevant to Law Today, as relevant, and sharing information about these events online.

Internship Requirements

  • Excellent writing and research skills.
  • Good initiative, self-starter, independence, creativity.
  • Flexibility to work within a small team, willingness to learn from feedback and constructive criticism.
  • Excellent command of written and spoken English; fluency in written and spoken Arabic highly desirable.
  • Junior student (year 1 or 2), looking for a summer internship.
  • Ideally majoring in law/business/media/political science.
  • Male or female·
  • Able to travel easily to 5th Settlement every weekday.
  • Interest in law/business/journalism.
  • Able to use basic computer software (Microsoft Office, internet, social media)·
  • Personable manner, excellent interpersonal skills, interest in learning new things.
