Internship Description

Project Description:

Study of Mechanical vibrations is vital for all mechanical engineering disciplines. The Mechanical vibrations course is in the process of being modernized by introducing more laboratory work for the students. This requires developing Educational Kits designed to achieve specific Intended Learning Outcomes in the Vibrations course. In this project, the supervisor will demonstrate some ideas for those kits, while the students will be responsible for providing detailed designs, manufacture and test those kits. Examples of the learning outcomes to be covered include:

  • Applying the concepts of mechanical vibrations: Translational/Torsional systems.
  • Analyzing free-damped single-degree-of-freedom systems: Under-damped/Over-damped.
  • Analyzing forced single-degree-of-freedom systems: Rotating unbalance/Base-excitation.
  • Analyzing two-degree-of-freedom systems: Free/Forced.
  • Using vibration absorbers to control mechanical vibrations: General/Tuned vibration absorbers.

It is worth mentioning that basic knowledge of design and manufacturing technologies is mandatory. Students will be asked to use existing manufacturing facilities at CVS3 to manufacture most of the parts themselves. A prior knowledge of mechanical vibrations is preferable but not necessary as this can be introduced at the beginning of the internship. Students will also be guided on how to use vibration measurement equipment to test and validate the kits.

Scope of Work:

  • Learning basic concepts of vibrations
  • Design of educational kits
  • Manufacturing of kits
  • Testing and validation of the developed kits.

Application Deadline: Thursday 23rd May 2019

Internship Start date: Sunday 23rd June 2019 – Thursday 29th August 2019

Internship Requirements

  • Mechanical engineering students.
  • Mastering CAD packages such as Autocad, Inventor, or SolidWorks.
  • COMMITMENT.
