Internship Description
Project Description:
A building management system (BMS), otherwise known as a building automation system (BAS), is a computer-based control system installed in buildings that controls and monitors the building’s mechanical and electrical equipment such as ventilation, lighting, power systems, fire systems, and security systems. A BMS consists of software and hardware; the software program, usually configured in a hierarchical manner, can be proprietary, using such protocols as C-Bus, Profibus, and so on. Vendors are also producing BMSs that integrate using Internet protocols and open standards such as DeviceNet, SOAP, XML, BACnet, LonWorks and Modbus.
Building Management Systems (BMS) are the new trend in management of building utilities in a smart and energy efficient way. A new BMS will be installed for a new on-campus building for Sound, Vibration and Smart Structures. The participants in this project will participate in the implementation of this system.
Scope of Work:
- Development HVAC, Lighting and some Industrial Equipment monitoring and control unified interface system through the desired software and hardware in addition to other smart building systems such as access control and CCTV systems (Building Management System BMS).
- Ensure cross platform adaptability for the implemented monitoring and control system.
- Research in Energy Management tools and techniques.
- Working on Energy Management Simulators.
- Researching in different techniques for Energy Harvesting and Integration.
Application Deadline: Thursday 23rd May 2019
Internship Start date: Sunday 23rd June 2019 – Thursday 29th August 2019
Internship Requirements
One or more of the following:
- Familiar with different controllers’ circuits, programming and scenarios (PLC, Arduino, Microcontrollers…. ).
- Familiar with physical layer systems work such as cabling, wiring, testing and commissioning.
- Knowledge in renewable energy and energy harvesting and integration techniques, familiarity with energy management software and simulators is a plus.
- Front and backend web development.
